Raptors cut ‘Bo Cruz’: What’s next for Netflix’s ‘Hustle’ star Juancho Hernangomez?
The Raptors have ended their relationship with the Spanish international who had signed this summer with them for one season.
End of the era Juancho Hernangómez (27 years and 2.06 m) and the Toronto Raptors. Shams Charania (The Athletic) reported that the Canadian franchise has decided to cut the Spanish international, who signed a contract for one season and 2.3 million dollars on July 28. The power forward has played 42 games (10 starts) and has averaged 2.9 points (25.4% from the triple) and 2.9 rebounds in 14.6 minutes on the field.
His forced departure is directly related to Toronto’s latest move on the market: the Raptors have signed Will Barton (32 years and 1.98 m), free after reaching an agreement with the Washington Wizards, facing the playoffs.
Juancho Hernangomez as Bo Cruz from Netflix’s movie Hustle?
The Spaniard became more popular around the NBA for his roles as Bo Cruz in the movie Hustle’ (available via Netflix) than for his career in the NBA.
The film is Co-produced by LeBron James, and it features Adam Sandler as Stanley Sugarman, an aging international scout for the Philadelphia 76ers making a living looking for the next big star.
A trip to Spain sees Sandler’s character stumble across Bo Cruz, Juancho Hernangomez, who impresses him in a pick-up game with Bo working in a construction company and uses hustling at basketball to make extra cash.
What is next for Juancho ‘Bo Cruz’ Hernangomez? Another Netflix movie?
There is no clear path for Juancho at this moment. Teams can pick him up before Thursday if they want him to play in the playoffs. As of right now, no team has shown interest in the Spaniard. The Eurobasket MVP is not having an easy NBA career, and maybe a return to Europe is not a bad idea.
