Raptors grind out defensive win to tie series — coach challenges Scottie Barnes to reach “next level”
After tying the series 2-2 against the Cavaliers, Rajakovic assured that Barnes has not yet reached his best level with the Raptors in the Playoffs.

The Toronto Raptors knotted their 2026 first‑round playoff series at 2–2 after a gritty 93–89 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers — a rare low‑scoring battle in today’s NBA. Neither team cracked 100 points, but Toronto, led by head coach Darko Rajaković, imposed its defensive will to turn the matchup into a best‑of‑three.
Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram powered the Raptors with 23 points each, anchoring a performance defined more by toughness than efficiency. But after the game, the spotlight shifted to Rajaković’s pointed message for his franchise star.

Rajaković pushes Barnes: “He’s only at 60 percent of what he’ll become”
Despite Barnes’ strong outing, Rajaković didn’t hesitate when asked whether the forward is playing at the level he expects.
“No,” he said bluntly. “I expect more from Scottie — he’s going to give more. Right now, the way he’s playing, he’s at about 60 percent of the player he’ll be in two or three years.”
The coach didn’t stop there, projecting Barnes’ long‑term ceiling with absolute confidence.
“Scottie is going to be one of the best players in the league — and he already is one of the best players in the league.”
The mindset that sets Barnes apart
Rajaković highlighted the competitive fire that, in his view, makes Barnes unique.
“How much he cares about winning pushes him to do whatever it takes to win a game. That’s what makes him special. I expect him to keep getting better.”
Barnes has been a steady force throughout the series, consistently producing on offense while anchoring Toronto’s defensive identity.
Impact beyond the court
The coach also praised Barnes’ character, emphasizing his influence inside the locker room.
“Scottie is an incredible friend, an incredible father, an incredible son, an incredible teammate — an incredible human being. His heart is what matters most.”
Rajaković added that Barnes’ care for his teammates and the organization makes coaching him “a privilege.”

Ingram backs his teammate
Brandon Ingram echoed his coach’s praise after the win.
“On both ends, he’s leading our team right now, and we need every bit of that,” Ingram said.
Ingram matched Barnes’ 23 points and added six rebounds and two blocks, giving Toronto the balanced effort it needed to hold off Cleveland.
Series shifts back to Cleveland
With the series tied 2–2, the next matchup in Cleveland will shape the trajectory of the entire first round. And once again, all eyes will be on Scottie Barnes — not just for what he’s delivering now, but for the sky‑high expectations his own coach has placed on him.
