Steve Kerr: “Nobody’s celebrating”
The Warriors won Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Celtics and are one win away from the title, but coach Steve Kerr says no one is celebrating just yet.
It’s not over ‘til it’s over, but it’s pretty close right now for the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry was having an off day, but it didn’t matter for the Warriors. Andrew Wiggins stepped up and the Warriors took the Game 5 win to give them the 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals series against the Boston Celtics, putting themselves one win away from the championship.
“Here we are. We have a chance, we got two cracks at getting one win,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “But we also know how difficult it’s going to be, so nobody’s celebrating.”
If the Warriors win Game 6 in Boston, they are NBA champions. If the Celtics win Game 6, the series will be tied again and they’ll force a Game 7 back in California. Interestingly, Kerr told the media that nobody is celebrating, keeping it modest and making sure not to get too excited just yet, but in the locker room, it was a totally different vibe.
ESPN cameras caught Kerr giving the postgame speech to his players in the locker room. He praises the team’s performance and told them this:
“We’re going to get this in Boston.”
“We’re going to finish this in Boston, okay,” Kerr continued. “Whatever Steph [Curry] said yesterday, it still applies. Tomorrow we get our rest, get on the plane and go, get everything you need done treatment-wise, hydration, take care of all of that stuff and lock in.”
Game 6 will be on Thursday, June 16 at 9 p.m. ET in Boston. Follow all the live text coverage right here on AS USA.
