The Golden State Warriors were preparing to meet the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 4 without their head coach, Steve Kerr, as he entered covid-19 protocols.

Mike Brown, associate head coach, stepped in to lead the Warriors and assume his coaching duties, allowing Stephen Curry to take charge and steer the Golden State to a 3-1 lead in the Western conference semifinals.

Mike Brown steps in brilliantly once again

This was not the first time Brown took over the team when needed, as he previously led Golden State to an 11-0 record in 2017 when Kerr was dealing with back surgery aftermath.

Brown is familiar with the team he’s been with since 2016, but continues to respect the duties of his position and all that comes with it.

“To have that kind of thrown at you, you’ve got to switch gears because I know what my responsibilities are going in as Mike Brown the assistant coach, and it changes.”

The 2009 NBA Coach of the Year, Brown was also head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (on two separate occasions) and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Brown to be Kings new coach

Brown has agreed to become the Sacramento Kings new coach after this postseason run. The 52-year-old will take over the franchise with the longest playoff drought in NBA history.
