Suns bet big on Booker: these are the details of the guard’s record-breaking extension
ESPN has reported that NBA franchise the Phoenix Suns has agreed a contract extension with star guard Devin Booker.
With Kevin Durant now headed to the Houston Rockets, the Phoenix Suns are making it clear: Devin Booker is their franchise cornerstone. Booker’s agent, Jessica Holtz, told ESPN that the Suns have agreed to a two-year, $145 million contract extension with the 28-year-old guard - marking the richest per-year extension in NBA history.
Booker, whose contract was set to expire after the 2027-28 season, is now set to be tied to the Suns through the end of 2029-30. According to ESPN journalist Shams Charania, Booker and Phoenix owner Mat Ishbia met in Las Vegas to finalize the agreement.
Average annual value beats SGA extension
Booker’s new annual salary of $72.5 million surpasses the recent extension signed by reigning NBA champion and MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who inked a four-year, $285 million deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder - averaging $71.25 million per season.
Booker has long expressed his desire to spend his entire NBA career with one franchise, and this extension is another major step in that direction. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native has played 673 games over 10 seasons with the Suns, averaging 24.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game.
What will the Suns’ starting five be in 2025-26?
Looking ahead to next season, the Suns’ projected starting five features Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Royce O’Neale, and Mark Williams - a lineup that may struggle to keep pace with the Western Conference’s elite.
This marks Booker’s third contract extension with Phoenix. He signed a five-year, $158.25 million max deal in July 2018, followed by a four-year, $220.44 million veteran designated extension in July 2022. His continued commitment signals a deep belief in the Suns’ long-term vision - and his role at the center of it.
