The hot take about AD that Mavs fans won’t want to hear: “I don’t think Anthony Davis should ever play for the Mavericks again”

Update:

The Dallas Mavericks season has taken a turn for the worst as injuries have depleted the team and thrown the postseason into jeopardy. Now the Mavs, who just traded Luka Doncic, have to start thinking about the future, and one NBA insider thinks that could be a future without Anthony Davis.

Irving out for season, AD still banged up

Davis was the main part of the package from the LA Lakers in the trade that many Dallas fans have yet to heal from. Those wounds will remain open even longer considering the state of the Mavs roster heading into the final stretch of the season. AD had a stellar debut with the Mavs, scoring 26 and grabbing 16 rebounds, but he injured his abductor and was ruled out for at least four weeks.

Mavericks GM Nico Harrison, who has become public enemy number one at the American Airline Center, traded away Doncic because he said this team was focused on winning now. With Kyrie Irving playing at an All-Star level and Davis giving the Mavs even more depth down low, that was a possibility for Dallas. That’s not the case anymore.

Kyrie Irving got injured early this week and test results revealed the star guard tore his ACL, and his season isn’t just over, but he will likely miss the start of next season as well. Anthony Davis was set to be reevaluated in the coming weeks, but now there are mummers that Davis won’t play again this year in hopes that he can start next season off 100%.

One (game) and done?

The Mavs are in 10th place, and their chance to do anything in the playoffs with no Kyrie, and banged up AD and Luka in LA are slim to none. That’s why NBA Insider, Tim Bontemps, went on the Hoop Collective podcast and said not only should Davis not play this year, he shouldn’t play another game as a Maverick ever.

“I’m going to be honest, I don’t think Anthony Davis should ever play for the Mavericks again. He should play the rest of the season, and they should trade him this summer.” Said Bontemps.

Dallas is still fuming from seeing the face of their franchise shipped to LA, and the injury problems aren’t doing Nico Harrison any favors. If he and the Mavs decide to trade AD, who was the main return from the Lakers in the deal, there could be big trouble in Big D.
