Update:

Groundbreaking, earth-shattering, tectonic plate-tumbling moves in elite sport rarely happen overnight. Such seismic signings usually take time, with contracts needing to be ironed out meticulously with every i dotted and each t crossed.

That’s probably why the Golden State Warriors have already reportedly called the Los Angeles Lakers “multiple times” over the future of their star man, LeBron James.

Jake Fischer of The Stein Line’s reported on Friday that the Warriors are working on setting Jonathan Kuminga up with a contract that would allow them the wiggle room to consider the 40-year-old.

“Warriors have called the Lakers on multiple occasions”

“Who would the Warriors potentially pursue in trades if Kuminga were to relent and take their two-year offer?” he wrote. “As long as LeBron James’ future in Los Angeles remains uncertain, Golden State will undoubtedly be mentioned as a potential James suitor."

“I’m told that the Warriors have called the Lakers on multiple occasions over the past 18 months to see whether there is any trade pathway to pairing James with Stephen Curry, who roughly a year ago at this time was teaming with LeBron for the United States senior men’s national team on its run to a gold medal at the Paris Olympics,” he concluded.

Across the whole season, James managed averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, showing that he can still compete at the very top. It’s unclear how open the Lakers would be to saying goodbye to their main man, the arrival of Luka Doncic to the side has sent the rumour mill swirling on the future of the 4-time NBA champion, with the Slovenian the new poster boy of the California franchise.

While any potential LeBron switch may not happen soon, one name on the Warriors’ list of immediate targets is Cody Martin, according to Fischer. Martin averaged 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 rebounds over nearly six seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, numbers that would turn him into a fan favourite should he turn up at Chase Center next season.
