The Warriors fan favorite who may have to make way for Giannis

With talk of a potential move from the Warriors to sign Giannis from the Bucks reaching boiling point, Draymond Green was asked for his thoughts.

Update:

As the NBA trade deadline looms large like a spectre on the horizon, speculation about a potentially Earth-shattering move involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Golden State Warriors has reached terminal velocity.

Amid rumours swirling like a runaway Tazmanian devil linking the two-time MVP to a potential move out west, veteran forward Draymond Green says he is keeping his cool and focusing on the present rather than fearing a future departure.

“I’ve been here for 14 years,” Green reminded reporters on Friday night after the Warriors’ loss to the Detroit Pistons. “I have no reason to sit and worry about leaving. But if I’m traded, that’s part of the business. I ain’t losing no sleep, though. I slept great last night.”

Green reveals mindset amid departure rumours

I’m not going to go up there and be like, ‘Yo, so tell me what y’all doing,’” he responded when asked whether or not a conversation with general manager Mike Dunleavy and controlling owner Joe Lacob was on the cards. “I’ll be the same as I always am. My phone is always on. I’m always willing to collaborate in any way I can.”

That calm demeanour reflects Green’s seasoned perspective on the transactional nature of the NBA. At 35 years old, Green is no stranger to trade rumours, yet this year’s developments carry extra weight given the magnitude of Antetokounmpo’s stature. League sources have indicated that, with star guard Stephen Curry untouchable, most other Warriors, including Green, could be movable pieces if Golden State decides to pursue the Bucks superstar seriously.

Green’s current salary, reported at $25.8 million this season, would play a key role in any potential trade, serving as part of the package needed to match Antetokounmpo’s contract. That reality has only intensified discussion around roster reshaping and the Warriors’ long-term direction as they look to optimise Stephen Curry’s remaining prime years.

Talk regarding Green’s future aside, acquiring Giannis would be a move that would propel the Warriors to new heights. Antetokounmpo has remained one of the most dominant players in the NBA during the 2025-26 season: across 30 games, he is averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game, while shooting an efficient 64.5 percent from the field.
