The “City Edition” jerseys in the NBA are a series of alternate jerseys that NBA teams wear during the season to celebrate the unique culture, history, and identity of their respective cities. These jerseys often feature distinctive designs, colors, and motifs that reflect the local culture and heritage of the city where the team is based.

City Edition jerseys have become a popular tradition in the NBA, and fans often look forward to seeing the new designs each year. These jerseys offer a creative and unique way for teams to connect with their local fan base and show pride in their city’s heritage.

Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics have officially revealed their City Edition uniforms for the 2023-24 season. The uniforms are a tribute to Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. The uniform features a green “Boston” wordmark with a gold drop shadow and gold side panels with a parquet floor texture inspired by the TD Garden’s court. Brooklyn Nets

Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets are marking their 35th anniversary during the 2023-24 season with a unique commemorative logo and a Classic Edition uniform replicating their 1997-2002 design. Additionally, they have announced a new partnership with Feastables, a snack company owned by social media influencer Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson, which will see the company’s logo featured on the team’s jersey patch.

Chicago Bulls

The leaked 2023-24 City Edition uniforms of the Bulls are black and have a vertical white “Chicago” wordmark, reminiscent of the marquee and font used on Chicago Stadium from 1967-94.

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have recently launched their 2023-24 City Edition uniforms at a special event held for season ticket holders. The wine-colored jerseys proudly display “The Land” across the chest, while the collar, armholes, and shorts feature a unique pattern inspired by the carpet at the Connor Palace (The Palace Theatre). The design is a tribute to the city’s rich cultural heritage and represents the team’s deep connection with its fans.

Dallas Mavericks

The leaked set for the Mavericks’ 2023-24 City Edition pays homage to Leon Bridges, a famous singer, songwriter, and record producer from Fort Worth. The set includes his signature near the jock tag, a classic soul-style wordmark, and sublimated lyrics on the side panels.

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have recently made a small addition to their jerseys by adding a gold tab to the back collar. This tab showcases the Larry O’Brien Trophy behind the number one and symbolizes the teams that have won an NBA championship. Interestingly, only 11 NBA franchises have yet to win a championship and do not have a gold tab on their jerseys.

Detroit Pistons

The leaked 2023-24 City Edition uniforms of the Pistons seem to be inspired by the “Detroit Bad Boys” shirts from the 1980s. These shirts became popular when the team won consecutive championships in 1988-89 and 1989-90. The new jerseys have side panels that prominently display a basketball behind a skull and crossbones, similar to the vintage shirts’ design.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors’ 2023-24 City Edition set was leaked in September. It features a curved wordmark “San Francisco” across the chest and a rope-like pattern around the waistband. The waistband also has a new logo that resembles the sun in the flag of the Philippines. It would be fitting for the Warriors to honor the city’s Filipino community, which has over 325,000 residents, just as they have celebrated the city’s Chinese heritage with their previous City and Chinese New Year sets.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets appear to be the latest team to pay homage to the Houston Oilers – joining the Tennessee Titans, Houston Cougars, and Rice Owls – with their 2023-24 City Edition set, which was leaked on Instagram by guard Fred VanVleet and seemingly features an “H-Town” wordmark in light blue and red.

The Rockets have also slightly changed their Statement Edition uniform, which now features red armholes instead of black.

Indiana Pacers

The 2023-24 City Edition uniforms of the Pacers show an “Indy” wordmark on the chest area. The side panels of the jersey have a spray paint-like design that blends into the Pacers’ primary logo on the shorts’ bottom.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers’ 2023-24 City Edition uniform features a wordmark on the chest that resembles their 1978-82 logo. It’s their second tribute to San Diego in three years. Other notable details include hand-drawn basketballs and flowers.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers have made some changes to their branding. Even though the changes won’t be visible on the uniforms this season, the team now uses a darker shade of purple on their primary, secondary, and new partial “LA” logo. Furthermore, their City Edition set for the 2023-24 season was leaked in August. It features a triangle-shaped wordmark in gold and purple against a black background, which was used by the franchise in the 1960s.

Memphis Grizzlies

During their preseason Media Day, the Grizzlies unveiled their new City Edition set for the 2023-24 season. The uniform prominently features the “MEM” logo that has been seen on the waistbands of their Association and Icon Edition uniforms, as well as the trim on their Statement uniforms since the 2018-19 season. The uniform design retains the sporadically asymmetrical style the franchise has used since its Vancouver days. The uniform is black, likely a nod to the team’s history.

Miami Heat

Miami Heat’s 2023-24 City Edition uniform leaked with a “Heat Culture” wordmark on the chest, representing the team’s success. The jersey also features a new Carnival Corporation advertisement, owned by the Heat’s owner, Micky Arison.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks will have a blue City Edition uniform for the second year. This time, the uniform might pay tribute to the Hoan Bridge. The uniform will feature a “Milwaukee” wordmark in front of a cream-colored background, which gives the impression of an arch. The leaked image of the uniform appears to have a textured design, representing the inlet to the Milwaukee River that flows under the bridge.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves will have two new uniforms this season, including a City Edition set that is an ode to the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and a 1989-90 Classic Edition uniform. They also revealed a matching court design and commemorative logo celebrating their 35th season.

New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans have made some changes to their branding. They have simplified their Global logo and updated their wordmark. Additionally, they have introduced new Statement Edition uniforms that feature an arched “Crescent City” wordmark above and below the numbers. The Smoothie King Center has also received a new court design, which includes a sublimated fleur-de-lis pattern inside the three-point line and a bayou-like design along the baseline.

New York Knicks

The New York Knicks have updated their primary logo, which includes a new shade of orange. It is unclear whether or not this change will be reflected in their uniforms or even be noticeable. Recently, there was a leak of the 2023-24 City Edition uniforms, which feature an offset “New York” wordmark, pinstripes, black side panels reminiscent of their 1997-2001 design, and the familiar “NYC” Nike logo on the shoulder.

Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic basketball team is celebrating its 35th season this year. They have created a commemorative logo to mark the occasion, bringing together different aspects of their logo history. They have also released Classic Edition uniforms that replicate what the team wore from 1998-2003. The uniforms feature sublimated stars throughout and a black and silver pinstripe pattern down the sides. To complete the look, there is a matching court design.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers have subtly changed their uniforms for the upcoming season. City of Brotherly Love text dominates on the front side of the jersey.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns revamped their uniforms this offseason with new Association and Icon Editions that blend classic and modern designs. Their City Edition uniform, leaked in September, has “El Valle” across the chest and an airbrushed design resembling pinstripes on a lowrider, a nod to Mexican-American culture.

Sacramento Kings

There were changes galore for the Kings, who were the other team to unveil new Association, Icon, and Statement Edition uniforms this offseason. Both the Association and Icon sets feature a new script wordmark across the chest, while the Statement set is half black and half purple to nod to their 1994-97 alternate design.

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs will honor the 55th anniversary of HemisFair ‘68, popularly known as the 1968 World’s Fair or International Exposition, with their City Edition set for the 2023-24 season. At this point, only the court design has been leaked, which features a throwback color scheme of seafoam, orange, peach, and brown. The court also has the vintage Tower of the Americas logo at its center, as the Tower was constructed specifically for the fair.

Toronto Raptors

Guard Dennis Schröder leaked the Raptors’ 2023-24 City Edition set on Instagram during Media Day earlier this month. The gold uniforms feature an arched “Toronto” wordmark across the chest, mimicking the Raptors’ 2015-20 design and jagged pinstripes that call back to their 1995-99 uniforms.

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz have announced new uniforms for the 2023-24 season. However, they were revealed alongside their current Association, Icon, and Statement Edition sets last summer. The new uniforms include a purple City Edition set inspired by the team’s mountain design from 1996 to 2004. Additionally, the team will debut a 1974-75 Classic Edition uniform to mark their 50th season celebration.

Washington Wizards

Whereas the jerseys are often the first thing to leak, we caught our first glimpse at the Wizards’ 2023-24 City Edition shorts earlier this month. They feature the three stars from the Washington D.C. flag and blue and bronze accents reminiscent of their original color scheme.

The logo on the shorts is also new, and it appears to replace the Washington Monument with another unknown building.
