It’s probably not an exaggeration to say the first few weeks of Caitlin Clark’s WNBA career haven’t gone as she would’ve hoped, with the Indiana Fever in penultimate place in the standings after a 2-9 start to the season.

Following the recent win over the Chicago Sky, Clark was at the centre of a storm of media and fan attention during and after the game, as usual, but not for her point-scoring prowess.

Instead, she was embroiled in controversy following a series of physical challenges against her from Sky players, namely Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese, with the latter caught applauding a dirty challenge on the rookie before going in herself, elbowing Clark to the ground before staring at her as she laid flat on the court. Clark and Reese have met before, with the pair going up against each other in the 2023 NCAA Tournament final.

Clark’s Chicago Sky treatment ‘just not a basketball play’

During the third and fourth quarters, Clark described the incident as “just not a basketball play,” but conceded just “gotta play through it, that’s what basketball is about at this level.

After the game, Carter told reporters she wouldn’t be “answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” but later criticised the 22-year-old’s game on social media platform Threads: “Beside three point shooting what does she bring to the table?”

The next time the Fever will play Reese and Carter’s Sky will be on June 16. But there’s plenty of basketball to be played before then.

Clark and Fever heavily beaten by New York Liberty

Unfortunately for Clark and the Fever, things went from bad to worse in their most recent match, which came two days later against the New York Liberty. Having already been heavily defeated (66-102) by the same opponents in Week 1, Indiana suffered another crushing 68-104 loss at Barclays Center on Sunday.

In 29 minutes on court, the point guard made just one basket and scored only three points, also posting two rebounds and five assists in the lowest-scoring appearance of her young professional career.

When is Caitlin Clark’s next game?

Caitlin Clark is back on the court on Friday 8 June, when the Fever visit the Washington Mystics. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.

How can I watch Storm vs Fever?

You can watch all the WNBA all season long, including this game, on FuboTV (free trial available).

You can also watch the game on Prime Video.

Despite the Indiana Fever’s overall struggles since the start of the season, Clark is the fastest rookie in WNBA history to record 100 points and 50 assists and the only WNBA player, along with Sabrina Ionescu, to register 150-plus points, 50-plus rebounds and 50-plus assists in her first 10 career games.
