With the NBA’s All-Star Weekend almost upon us, we’re giving you the low down on what to expect from the big event. While the All-Star Game itself will take center stage on Sunday night, there are also some other great events to take in like the Skills Challenge, the 3-Point contest and of course the Slam Dunk Contest, a competition where only those with air miles get to fly.

What’s the field look like in the Slam Dunk Contest?

This year’s NBA All-Star Slam Dunk contest will feature four players, with the winner being determined by judges:

What to know about the field?

Alongside the All-Star Game itself, the Saturday night’s Slam Dunk contest is by far the most anticipated event of the weekend. In truth, that’s been the case for years, with the contest sometimes even overshadowing the game itself. From Michael Jordan’s universally famous ‘air walk’ from the free-throw line in 1987, to the intense duel he had with the man known as “The Human Highlight Film,” Dominique Wilkins in 1988. Then there was also the incredible vertical display put on by Spud Webb, one of the shortest players in NBA history standing at just 5 foot 6. Also, who could forget Vince Carter and the way he brutalized the ring in 2000.

Indeed, there have been some tough acts to follow, which is to say perhaps the critique leveled at the contest in recent years hasn’t been completely justified. Either way, there are four men who intend to change that this year. The point is, we’ve Kenyon Martin Jr. (Houston Rockets), Trey Murphy III (New Orleans Pelicans), Jericho Sims (New York Knicks) and Mac McClung (Philadelphia 76ers) will take to the court this weekend and in truth, each one is known as a jam specialist. McClung in particular actually has some prior experience, having won the BallisLife All-America Game Slam Dunk Contest back in 2018 at high school level. Keep your eyes on this one, as something tells us it’s going to be special.
