Will Cooper Flagg play today for the Mavericks against the Los Angeles Lakers?
The Dallas Mavericks star has suffered an injury ahead of the All-Star weekend.
Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg will not take part in either the game against the Los Angeles Lakers or the 2026 Rising Stars game during NBA All-Star Weekend after suffering a sprain in his left foot earlier in week, his team has confirmed.
The injury occurred on Tuesday in Phoenix during the Mavericks’ game against the Suns. Flagg underwent an MRI the next day which revealed the sprain, forcing Dallas’ hand to rule him out for the Lakers contest and the the Rising Stars showcase, the latter of which is scheduled for Friday night in California.
Flagg was originally meant to be one of the centrepieces of the Rising Stars event after being selected first overall in the 2025 Draft and was Carmelo Anthony’s top pick for the roster.
Unfortunately, the injury has interrupted such strong momentum. The recovery period from the Mavericks suggests Flagg will remain sidelined through All-Star weekend, using the break for rest and recovery. Dallas are said to be targeting his return when regular season play resumes.
Despite the fact that the Dallas Mavericks sit in 12th position in the NBA Western Conference standings with an irregular 19-34 record so far in the season, the youngster has been a standout for the Mavericks this season, leading the team in scoring and emerging as a Rookie of the Year frontrunner.
He is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game across 49 appearances, and he recently wrote his name into the record books with a historic 49-point outing, the most by any teenager in NBA history.
