Update:

Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns appears on New York’s injury report for Friday’s matchup in Detroit with a “questionable” tag following a facial injury suffered in Wednesday’s 134-127 double-overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets.

The centre took a hard blow to the right eye when he tangled with an opponent, forcing him to briefly leave the court for treatment before returning with a bandage and finishing the game strong with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

It’s okay. I look like I fought Shakur Stevenson,” Towns said during an in-game interview.

Being listed as questionable suggests Towns is day-to-day rather than facing a long absence, and the Knicks have indicated they will take another look at his condition up to tip-off.

The cut looked serious enough that medical staff closely monitored him after the game. Head coach Mike Brown and the coaching staff are likely to watch how Towns warms up and responds to treatment before deciding whether to put him on the floor.

Towns is the cornerstone of New York’s front court, anchoring both the offence and defence. Without him, the Knicks would lean more heavily on Mitchell Robinson and the bench, adjusting rotations and potentially slowing their paint presence.

On the other hand, if the Knicks err on the side of caution, they could turn to Mitchell Robinson and the front-court depth to fill the void. Robinson’s experience protecting the rim and rebounding would be especially valuable against a top-tier Pistons team eager to exploit their opponents’ weaknesses.
