Will Victor Wembanyama play today in the Summer League against Portland?
All eyes are on the 2023 NBA Draft overall No. 1 pick, who debuted on Friday at the Las Vegas Summer League.
The San Antonio Spurs will play their second game at the Las Vegas Summer League against the Portland Trail Blazers after defeating the Charlotte Hornets in their first game on Friday.
Victor Wembanyama, considered by many as the most talented player to feature in the Draft after Lebron James, had the chance to play against Charlotte, something that the Spurs and NBA fans had been waiting for to check his skills with the San Antonio jersey.
Gregg Popovich’s side remains undefeated so far, as besides beating the Hornets in their first game in Las Vegas, they did so in their previous two in Sacramento.
Will Wembanyama play against the Blazers?
Wembanyama is expected to feature in the game against the Blazers to help him getting used to the intensity of NBA basketball.
Wemby’s performance on Friday was disappointing to many, as the French player ended up with nine points on 2 of 13 shooting. After the game, he realized Wembanyama realized that his conditioning needs improvement.
“I think there is a lot of conditioning to do to play in an 82-game season. We run a lot. It is really exhausting. Even though the game was 40 minutes tonight when I came out, I was always like tired and exhausted, so I think there is a lot of conditioning to do”.
Wembanyama, who was defensively better with eight rebounds and five blocks, averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks during the LNB Finals, where his team, the Metropolitans 92, lost in a three-game sweep by Monaco.
Portland’s guard Scoot Henderson will miss Sunday’s game due to a right shoulder injury against the Houston Rockets, so fans won’t be able to enjoy a clash between the No. 3 pick and Wembanyama.
