COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

2024 College World Series Finals preview

The 2024 College World Series gets underway today with Tennessee and Texas A&M each vying for their first ever crown. We run down the details for both.

While the unseeded teams gave good account of themselves throughout the NCAA D1 Tournament, in the end it was the top teams who find themselves in the final in Omaha. The top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers will take on the number three seed Texas A&M Aggies in this best of three for the right to be crowned the top team in college baseball.

Game 1 gets underway at 7:30 pm at Charles Schwab Field in this all-SEC matchup, the third such final in four years. Mississippi State beat Vanderbilt in 2021 and LSU topped Florida last season, with the last non-SEC team in the final Oklahoma back in 2020.

The Vols, it will be no surprise come into this tournament the favorite. It may be a surprise, however, to learn that Tennessee are the first number one ranked team to make the final since 2009. This is the Vols’ second appearance in the final, the first being back in 1951 when they lost a close one to Oklahoma.

Tennessee are the top-scoring division one baseball program in the last five years, racking up 209 wins and 559 home runs over that span.

This season, the Vols led the nation in home runs as well, banging out 178 of them, becoming the first college team to have five players with more than 20 homers each.

Texas A&M are making their first ever trip to the CWS in their 130 year history. Their bats have been hot coming into this game but it is the bullpen that has really been the star of this program. The Aggies pitching staff posted a program record with 680 strikeouts this year.

While the safe money is on Tennessee, you might want to hedge your bets and back Texas in the first Game. You have to feel that this one will go to three games, sure as shooting.
