As we enter March, basketball fans all over the country are eagerly anticipating the start of the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament, commonly referred to as March Madness. This year, the tournament kicks off on Tuesday, March 19, with four play-in games to determine the final 64 teams that will advance to the main tournament.

After the play-in games, the tournament begins in earnest on Thursday, March 21, with a full slate of games throughout the day and into the night. This year’s tournament will include 68 teams from across the country, with the top teams vying for a chance to make it to the Final Four.

The Final Four games will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home to the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. This is a fitting venue for the championship games, as it is a massive stadium with a seating capacity of over 63,000 fans. The games are scheduled for April 6th and 8th, with the championship game taking place on the 8th.

March Madness 2024 schedule:

  • Selection Sunday: Sunday, March 17
  • First Four: March 19-20
  • First round: March 21-22
  • Second round: March 23-24

  • NCAA championship game: Monday, April 8 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The tournament has earned its reputation for unpredictability. Many fans and analysts alike have seen the underdogs triumph over the heavy favorites in the past. This year’s tournament is expected to be just as exciting, with plenty of upsets and surprises in store for fans.

Whether you’re rooting for the top seeds or the underdogs, March Madness is one of the most anticipated events in US sports.

When is the Selection Sunday?

On Sunday, March 17, the NCAA Selection Committees will reveal the bracket and matchups for the annual college basketball tournament, March Madness. The Selection Sunday show will start at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) and will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount Plus.

The committee’s priority is to guarantee a spot for all the conference champions and fill the remaining positions with at-large bids. The selection process is based on several factors, including a team’s win-loss record, strength of schedule, and quality wins against other tournament-bound teams.

After the committee has selected the 68 teams participating in the tournament, they will be grouped into four regions and given a seed number from 1 to 16 based on their overall ranking. The No. 1 seeds are typically awarded to the top teams in the tournament, and this year, Purdue, Houston, and Connecticut are among the favorites to receive one.

Once the NCAA Selection Committees announce the 68 teams, the bracket pools officially open up, and the real fun begins for fans who love filling out their brackets and predicting each game’s winners. Many people participate in office pools, online contests, and other bracket challenges to compete against friends, family, and colleagues.
