Update:

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning wrote his name into the history books on Saturday, doing something that very few other SEC players have managed.

Manning was in dominant form against Arkansas, showing his full range of talents against a poor opposition defense. The Longhorns QB recorded a rare treble of passing touchdown, receiving touchdown and rushing touchdown in the same game.

He becomes only the fifth SEC quarterback since the 2000 season to have achieved that feat. And Manning joins an illustrious club.

The most recent player to accomplish that treble was Dak Prescott, who recorded a passing, receiving and rushing touchdown while playing for Mississippi State in 2014. Incredibly, Prescott actually managed it twice during his time in Mississippi.

In 2016 Dak Prescott was taken by the Dallas Cowboys with the 135th pick of the NFL Draft. He was named Offensive Rookie of the Year that season and has gone on to be an elite quarterback in the league, notably finishing the 2023 season as the NFL passing touchdown leader.

Manning has a long way to go if he is to come close to Dak Prescott’s career and there’s still work to do this season with Texas. The Longhorns came into Saturday’s game against Mississippi State with a 7-3 record, making them an outside shot for an at-large bid in the College Football Playoff. But if the young star can replicate this sort of form, the Longhorns have a chance.
