Arch Manning on Heisman talk: ‘I’ve only played two games!’
The latest member of the legendary Manning family, the Longhorns quarterback is already favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
For years, there has been talk of another extraordinary talent out of the legendary Manning family of quarterbacks.
First there was Archie, then Peyton and Eli. Now, 21-year-old Arch Manning is about to embark on his first full season with the Texas Longhorns and he is making waves. The younger Manning prospect takes charge of a Longhorns team that fell at the semi-final stage of the NCAA National Championship last year.
Arch Manning is only just getting accustomed to life in Texas but already he’s making headlines, and he’s been installed as the No. 1 favorite for the 2025 Heisman Award with some bookmakers. Nevertheless, speaking at the SEC Media Day on Tuesday, Manning said that he was taking no notice of the Heisman talk.
“I’m not really sure how they got these opinions because I’ve only played in, what? Two games?” Manning said. “I guess it’s nice of them to say, but it doesn’t mean anything. Talk is cheap, I’ve got to go prove it.”
He has a good platform on which to show his talent, at one of the most illustrious programs in college football. Last season they fell to Ohio State and they can get some revenge early this year, when they take on Ohio State for their season opener on August 30.
“We’re opening with the champs,” Manning said. “It’s going to be a fun one. I learned a lot from Quinn; he was damn good on the road. I’m going to text him, get some of his advice, and we’ll fire up. Ohio State is a really good team, so it’s going to be a good challenge.”
He continued: “We’ve got a good group around me. I think our defense is really good, we’ve got a good o-line and we’ve got good skill players. So, I’m going to rely on them and try to make it happen.”
