Update:

The all-time NCAA record for rushing yards was smashed by a little-known running back from Curry College, Massachusetts on Saturday.

Montie Quinn put up an incredible performance in the 71-27 victory over Nichols College, racking up 522 rushing yards in a single game. Incredibly he managed this feat in just 20 carries, averaging 26.1 yards per carry.

Quinn picked up seven touchdowns in the win to complete a perfect individual showing. Previously the record for rushing yards was held by former Heidelberg RB Cartel Brooks, who put up 465 yards in a single game in 2013.

Before Saturday the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record was held by former Oklahoma running back Samanje Perine. He managed 427 yards in a single NCAA game and went on to be selected by Washington in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 30-year-old Perine is now in his ninth season in the NFL and recently signed for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Quinn is from Goose Creek, South Carolina and has now rushed for 1,450 yards and 17 touchdowns across six games this season. Saturday’s showing included two monster touchdowns - one at 85 yards and another at 84 yards - to take his total past the historic record.

“I’m just humbled and grateful. Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today,” Quinn said after the game. “The O-line was dominating all game, receivers were blocking like crazy, and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us. I just happened to be the one carrying the ball.”
