Navy head into their first bowl game in five years and looking to make history. Brian Newberry’s team face Oklahoma (6-6).
The last time the Midshipmen played a bowl game was five years ago - on that occasion, they beat Kansas State to win the Liberty Bowl, bringing up their 12th triumph in 25 bowl appearances.
On Friday, Navy take on Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth and could make history if they manage to come out on top. Brian Newberry’s team ended the regular season 9-3, to finish third in the American Athletic Conference.

Navy hoping to close in double figures
A win against the Sooners would bring up the sixth time in school history that Navy has won at least 10 games during a regular season - the most recent was in 2019 when they ended 11-2.
Coach Newberry explained why Oklahoma (6-6) start out with a slight advantage. “It’s a big advantage during the course of a season if a team has a week to get ready for you. In a bowl game it’s a little bit different because they’ve known that they’re going to be playing us here for a little bit of time now and they have more time to prepare for it. The reason we do it is that it’s a bit of an equalizer - it makes it tougher for us”.
The Sooners began the season in style, winning their first three games (against Temple, Houston and Tulane) but the wheels came off after that. Just two win in the last seven but despite the task facing them in Texas tomorrow, Brent Venables' team are sure to give Navy a run for their money.
When is the 2024 Armed Forces Bowl?
The 2024 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl between the Navy Midshipmen and the Oklahoma Sooners will take place at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday 27 December 2024 and is scheduled to kick off at 12 noon ET / 9 a.m. PT. The game will air live on ESPN.
