Update:

Michigan’s shock decision to remove Sherrone Moore on Wednesday reshaped the Wolverines’ season in an instant. What had been a relatively steady two-year run for the head coach ended abruptly when the university concluded that Moore had violated internal policy through an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Athletic director Warde Manuel announced the termination with cause, stressing that the school’s standards left no room for such conduct.

Moore’s 18–8 record and reputation as an offensive strategist positioned him as a long-term figure in Ann Arbor. That view evaporated once investigators presented their findings, prompting the university to act.

The day turned even more chaotic when Pittsfield Township police disclosed that Moore had been taken into custody as a suspect in an alleged assault. Officers said the case did not appear random and posed no wider threat, but the timing intensified scrutiny on a program already dealing with reputational fallout.

Who is replacing Sherrone Moore at Michigan?

In response, Michigan handed the team to Biff Poggi, who steps in as interim coach with immediate effect. His first task is stabilizing a roster preparing for a New Year’s Eve Citrus Bowl meeting with No. 13 Texas after a 9–3 regular season.
