The new season of the National Football League was underway and the final game of Week 1 lined up for Monday Night Football. The New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills went head to head with Aaron Rodgers hoping to get the upper hand for his new team. Unfortunately for the quarterback, he didn’t have much time on the field as injury forced him off early.

What is Aaron Rodgers’ injury and how long is he out?

This was Rodgers’ official debut with his new team, after his arrival from the Green Bay Packers and came on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. He emerged from the tunnel with the American flag as he was introduced for the first time to the Jets fans in Meadowlands, but the stadium fell silent on New York’s fourth offensive play after he was sacked by defensive end Leonard Floyd, and the quarterback went down with what appeared to be a lower leg injury.

He was helped off the field and then taken to the locker room with a boot on his leg. He did not return, with rumours circulating that it could be an achilles injury, potentially a serious one. Zach Wilson came in to the game and despite an unconvincing offensing performance, a heroic defense display ensured the win, but thoughts turned to the longevity of the new hero’s time out

Robert Saleh told reporters immediately after the game that things weren’t great when asked about the status of Rodgers’ injury. “MRI is gonna confirm what we think is already gonna happen. But it’s not good.”

Everyone concerned now awaits more detailed information from that scan and we will provide an update here once it comes in.

Update: New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is set to sit out the remainder of the 2023 NFL season due to a complete tear of his left Achilles tendon

Next up for the Jets, it’s a trip to Dallas on Sunday to face the mightily impressive Cowboys.

How long does Achilles injury recovery last?

Achilles injuries can be quite severe and vary in terms of recovery time depending on the specific circumstances of the injury and the individual’s rehabilitation process. It typically takes around 9 to 12 months to return to full football activity and so the Jets will need to consider options to bring another QB in.

Who could replace Rodgers?

Early free agent options being touted for a replacement include Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan, while some analysts pointed to former Jet Joe Flacco, Colt McCoy and Nick Foles. Then again, some mischievous souls through Tom Brady’s name into the mix.
