Aaron Rodgers to the rescue: Steelers hopeful the veteran QB can lead the team when training camp begins
The 2025 season will be a new era for the Pittsburgh Steelers but it will be highlighted by the 41-year-old legend.

For the 21st time in his illustrious career, Aaron Rodgers is gearing up for another preseason training schedule.
The 41-year-old signed a one-year, $13.6 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, giving him one last shot at a second Super Bowl ring. The veteran star is tasked with provided that killer instinct to a team that struggled at quarterback last year.
Rodgers will become the fifth different name to start the season opener for the Steelers in the past five years. He may only have one year with the team but he will be desperate to make sure that he gets off to a fast start in Pittsburgh. That starts in earnest with the team’s training camp next month.
When does Pittsburgh Steelers’ training camp begin?
Teams across the league began Optional Team Activities (OTAs) early this month, and most have already started with short mandatory minicamps. However the real work begins with the start of the Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
The team will report to the venue on Wednesday, July 23 for the start of preseason proper. This is the 58th year that the Steelers have used Saint Vincent College for their preparations. Here’s a look at what the team has in store...
Pittsburgh Steelers training camp schedule
- Wednesday, July 23 - Players report for training camp
- Thursday, July 24 - First session open to the public
- Tuesday, July 29 - First padded practice
- Friday, August 1 - 'Friday Night Lights' practice session
- Tuesday, August 13 - Final open practice session
- Wednesday, August 14 - Joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Acrisure Stadium
It will be the first chance for Steelers fans to get a proper look at Aaron Rodgers taking snaps for their team. For Rodgers, too, the chance to play for Pittsburgh has come late in his career but it’s something that he’s looking forward to.
“There’s a few iconic franchises in the NFL. I played for one of them for 18 years. This is another one of those. There’s something special about this area,” Rodgers said.
“So many great quarterbacks are from Pittsburgh. I feel like Pittsburgh has been a part of my career from the beginning, playing for Mike McCarthy for 13 years, having Tom Clements, or Tommy Clements, depending how old you are, as my quarterback coach forever, Don Capers, Kevin Greene, Darren Perry, Derrick McAdoo, Frank Cignetti, Luke Getsy. I don’t want to forget anybody, but there have been a lot of Yinzers in my life.”
