The Jags won the toss and elected to receive the ball to start the overtime session. With the ball around midfield, CJ Beathard hit Calvin Ridley with a deep shot to put the Jags inside the 5, but a holding penalty wiped that play off the board and the Jags had to punt. As he did all night, Jake Browning led the Bengals down the field and set up this 48 yard field goal from Evan McPherson to snap the Bengals three game losing streak and keep them alive in the playoff race as the Jags lost a fantastic chance to take pole position in the AFC chase for the one seed in the playoffs.
On the drive after the Bengals tied it up at 28-28, Trevor Lawrence drove the Jags into field goal range but tripped over his own lineman's foot and fell awkwardly on that right ankle. TV angles showed him in a considerable amount of pain as he slammed the ground in frustration knowing that his night was over. Initial tests indicated that Lawrence suffered a sprained ankle, but there is no timetable set for a return.
The Bengals would respond to the misssed field goal by setting up an Evan McPherson 54 yard go-ahead field goal with just over 2:00 on the clock. C.J. Beathard would have his turn to play hero in the absence of Lawrence and he set up the game tying 40 yard field goal from Brandon McManus with 26 seconds on the clock.
The Bengals and Browning would tie the game up for the fourth time with a QB sneak of his own to complete what was a dream performance for any quarterback, not just one making the second start of his career.
Browning went 32/37 for 354 yards, 1 passing TD and one rushing TD but his work wasn't done yet. The Benglas would take the lead after the Jags missed a field goal from 48 yards away with 5:03 on the clock.
Lawrence had a couple of third and fourth down conversions with the QB sneak, and he stretched it into the endzone with this QB sneak to put the Jags back up by a TD late in the fourth quarter. The Bengals had to keep coming back in this game, but after the interception and this TD, we were left wondering how much more fight the Bengals had in the tank. The answer: plenty.
With their offense running like clockwork, the Bengals didn't need to get to tricky but they tried to pull a rabbit out of their hat and it ended up coming back to bite them. Tyler Boyd's pass back across the field after the lateral was intercepted by Josh Allen who had 1.5 sacks and this pick to set up the Jags inside the CIN 10 on this near pick six.
Rookie Parker Washington hadn't made a catch this season coming into Monday Night, but he rose to the occasion after Kirk went down with an injury. He had 6 catches for 61 yards and this incredible catch off the deflection in the back of the endzone to tie the game in the third quarter.
The Bengals took their first lead of the night with this 70 yard bomb to Ja'Marr Chase on their opening drive of the second half. Chase was going to have to be huge for Cincy in the absence of Burrow and he was. He caught 11 balls for 149 yards and a TD.
Joe Mixon ran his second TD of the night late in the first half as the Bengals ran a flawless late second quarter drive led by Jake Browning who had just two incompletions in the first half. He started the night with short passes to the flat and out of the backfield which opened up room downfield for some big passing plays throughout the night.
Christian Kirk was injured on the first play of the Jaguars night, so that meant the other WRs were going to have to step up for Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville. Evan Engram rose to the occasion with this 22 yard sprint to the endzone after getting a couple of great blocks on the edge.
The Bengals, who were led by a QB making just his second start, went blow for blow with the Jaguars in a game that saw five ties (the most in the NFL this season). It was Mixon who put Cincy on the board first with this second effort run from six yards out.
The Jags started their first drive with great field position after the defense forced a turnover on downs to open up the night. Travis Etienne got the college option pitch from his former college QB for the game's first TD.

The Bengals tried to get a little too cute despite their offense moving the ball with ease down the field and Boyd's pass across field was picked by Allen.

Jake Browning has looked fantastic in just his second start. The Bengals have more yards in the first half than they did all of last week in Pittsburgh, and their QB is a big reason why. He has 178 yards on 17/19 passing while Mixon has 70 total yards and two TDs after two quarters.
The Jags calmed things down with a long drive that was finished with this 21 yard catch and run from Engram.
Lawrence is 10/13 for 117 yards and this TD, and Engram leads the Jags in receiving with 32 yards on three catches.
Cincinnati countered with a 92 yard drive that was led by back up QB Jake Browning who started the game with some short passes to the flat and out of the backfield which set up some big plays on the Bengals opening TD drive. It was Mixon who punched it in from 6 yards out on his first TD of the game.
The Jags defense came up with a turnover on downs and gave Lawrence and the offense great field position to start the game. After converting a fourth down inside the 20 it was Etienne who punched it in on the second effort run from 4 yards out.

Etienne gets his first handoff to the game and he gets 4 yards on the right side.

Ridley gets a reverse from left to right and turned the edge for a gain of 10 yards!

Lawerence goes deep to Kirk on the first snap of the Jags night and Kirk was wide open down the left sideline for a gain of 26! The bad news is Kirk stayed down after that catch and that would be a big blow to this Jags offense.

Short pass set up for Boyd and he is stopped on the left side after a gain of two but a facemask will give the Bengals a first down!

Short out route from Hudson and Browning hit him with a quick pass for a first down and a gain of 4 yards.

Handoff to Brown out of the shotgun and he takes it for two yards on the right side.

Mixon gets the handoff to the left side and he takes the first play of the game for four yards. They are going to have to establish a run game tonight after running the ball just 11 times last week.

Time to Tee off
The Bengals may not have Joe Burrow under center, but their offense gets a big boost tonight against the Jaguars. Tee Higgins returns after dealing with a hamstring and ankle injury for the last few games. This offense is always dangerous as long as they have Higgins, Chase and Tyler Boyd lined up out wide. Jake Browning will need to incorporate all of his weapons in his first road start in five years.
Time to shine for Bengals D
The Bengals defense is one of the bottom units in the league. They are allowing 389 yards a game which is worst of any team in the NFL, and give up 22 points a game. Their job is only going to get tougher with the absence of Joe Burrow and a suspect run game. If the Bengals are going to have any chance of reaching the playoffs, the defense is going to have to step up for the final six games of the season.
AFC Standings
Having a look at the AFC standings after the Chiefs loss last night, we see the Jags, Ravens and the Dolphins all tied at the top of the conference with three losses. The Jags are going to have to win tonight to keep pace with Baltimore and Miami. Right now the Steelers, Browns and Colts are in the three Wild Card spots at 7-5. Houston is 7-5, sitting right out side the playoff picture with Denver, Buffalo and Cincinnati who all have six losses a piece. The Bengals still have a chance but there is not much margin for error tonight, and for the rest of the season.
Jags firing on all cylinders
The Jags have been one of the top teams in the league this year because they are a balanced team on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Trevor Lawrence is in the middle of the pack when it comes to his passing stats, and Travis Etienne is a top 10 running back, but the big change has come on the defensive side of the ball. They are giving up less than 21 points a game which is a vast improvement of the 27 ppg they allowed last year which put them in the bottom five of the league. Josh Allen and Travon Walker are a big reason the Jags defense has turned things around this year.
All eyes on Chase
Ja’Marr chase is one of the best pass catchers in the league, and he was set for another brilliant season, but things haven’t quite gone to play this year for the former LSU standout. He is still well on pace to record a 1,000 yard season, which would be his third in his first three years in the NFL, but with Burrow out for the year he may not put up the kind of numbers we are used to. He has 75 catches for 914 yards and six TDs, and last week caught 4 balls for 81 yards. If the Bengals are going to win any more games this year, it’s going to be on the shoulders of their WR1.
Bengals last game
It was the first game the Bengals had to play after losing Joe Burrow for the season and it showed. Jake Browning got the start and the offense understandably struggled to move the ball against the stingy Pittsburgh defense. Browning ended up throwing for 227 yards and a TD, but the run game was non existent. Cincy ran the ball 11 times for 25 yards as the Bengals had their time of possession doubled by the Steelers. The Steelers had a renaissance on the offensive end just days after firing Matt Canada, totaling more than 400 yards for the first time all year. Despite the offensive explosion, a late field goal pulled Cincy to within six points with two minutes to go, but the Steelers recovered the onside kick and ran the clock down.
Jags last game
The Jags locked horns with the Texans in an AFC South battle that went down to the final moments in Houston. It was a QB dual between Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Stroud, and the Jags gun slinger did just enough to edge out the Texas, passing for 364 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Jacksonville was in control of the game midway through the fourth quarter, but a missed Brandon McManus field goal gave the Texans a sign of life down by 10. Stroud had Houston in the end zone just five plays later and forced a Jacksonville punt with 3:00 left in the fourth. Stroud marched his side down the field again and set up a game tying field goal, but Matt Amendola missed from 55 yards out and the Jags survived.

Hello everyone and welcome to Jacksonville where the Jaguars have been rolling over the last two months. They lost two of their first three games, but since then have rattled off eight of nine games and have their eyes set on the top spot in the AFC. The Bengals had dreams of a return trip to the Super Bowl despite a slow start to the season. They began to turn things around once Joe Burrow got healthy, but he suffered a season ending injury two weeks ago and with that the Bengals playoff chances have most likely been sidelined.

This was supposed to be a spotlight match up between to playoff teams and Super Bowl contenders but the injury to Joe Burrow has soured this match a bit as the Jaguars host the Bengals on Monday Night Football.
