Throughout the NFL season, the two rookie quarterbacks in the lead to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award were Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels and Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams. But lately, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has made the case as a contender as well, taking over Williams and gaining on Daniels in the odds.

The Broncos are at 7-5 after Nix led them to a 29-19 win over the AFC West rival Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, finishing 25-of-42 for 273 yards and two touchdowns and no turnovers. It was Nix’s third game in the last five in which he threw for more than 270 yards, a mark which he failed to reach through his first seven games.

Nix rising in the OROY competition

Nix struggled through his first three games, throwing zero touchdowns and four interceptions, but did have two rushing touchdowns. While many thought Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was a shoe-in to win the OROY award at that point, the tables have turned, as Nix has shown great improvement since Week 4 and Daniels has been slipping in recent weeks.

Since Week 4, Nix has logged 18 touchdowns (16 passing, two rushing) and thrown just two interceptions. In Week 11, he put up 300 yards and four touchdowns in their 38-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons. He leads all rookie quarterbacks in passing touchdowns with 16 through Week 12. Daniels leads Nix in rushing touchdowns by just one and in passing yards by just 65.

Here’s where Nix stands apart though. He has more games (five) with 200 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions than any other rookie quarterback. Daniels is second with three, Williams has two, and New England Patriots’ Drake Maye has just one.

As of last week, Nix was second in the betting odds to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award behind Daniels, with Daniels’ odds being -400 and Nix’s being +3000. After a loss for Daniels and a win for Nix in Week 12, it will be interesting to see how those odds change.
