Buffalo Bills 24 vs 20 Kansas City Chiefs summary: stats, and highlights | NFL Week 6

Update:
The Buffalo Bills avenged their playoff loss to the Kansas City on Sunday. Josh Allen threw for three touchdowns in the most anticipated game of the season.

The Buffalo Bills snuck out of Aarowhead with a win and avenged last season's playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon. Josh Allen threw for three touchdowns in a battle of potential MVPs.

Battle of the MVPs

It was labeled the game of the regular season and with good reason. So often, so much build up can only lead to a disappointing game once it’s time for kickoff. Sunday’s game looked like it was headed in that direction after a first quarter full of turnovers.

It was a a battle of two MVP candidates and two of the top offenses in the league, but it was the Buffalo defense that made the crucial play late in the game.

Both teams opened up the game with drives deep into opponent territory, but both drives were ended with red zone turnovers. When Mahomes and Allen are on the field, you expect fireworks but the first quarter ended 0-0 after a Bills fumble and a Chiefs interception.

Allen and Davis a recipe for deep balls

Tyler Bass put the Bills on the board with a field goal a minute into the second quarter to open the scoring, and the Chiefs answered with a quick strike TD drive on the next possession. Mahomes hit Juju Smith-Schuster for a 42 yard catch and run after spinning out of a gang of defenders and bursting into the endzone to give the Chiefs their first lead of the game.

The Bills were stopped inside the five yard line for a second time on the next drive. Allen marched Buffalo to the KC 3, but the Chiefs defense came up with the stop to maintain their 7-3 lead.

Allen and the Bills had to wait until there were 16 seconds left in the first half to find the end zone when the Buffalo QB hit Gabe Davis for a 34 yard TD with 16 seconds to go in the half.

No late Chiefs winner this time

As last year taught us, that’s more than enough time to get down the field and kick a field goal and that is what Kansas City did. Harrison Butker drilled a 62 yarder as the clock ran out in the first half to tie the game at 10-10.

Butker missed a 51 yard kick to start the third quarter, and Buffalo took the lead on the ensuing drive. It took just six plays for Allen to march the Bills down the field and find Stefan Diggs for a 17 yard TD pass to push ahead 17-10.

Mahomes would not be outdone by Allen, and punched back to tie the game with a three yard pass to Mecole Hardmanlate in the third quarter.

Johnson calls game with late pick

The home side took a 20-17 lead five minutes into the fourth quarter, but against the Bills that’s a dangerous lead to have and Allen punished them with just over a minute left in the game. He fired a laser to Dawson Knox for a 14 yard TD to take the late lead.

The Chiefs had the ball with little time on the clock and flashback of the playoff game back in January started to filter in. The Bills made sure the Chiefs would have no late game heroics when Taron Johnson picked off Mahomes to give the QB his second pick of the day and fourth of the season.

Allen won the battle of the MVP candidates, going 27/40 for 329 yards and three TDs, while Mahomes had 338 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Joshnson jumped the route and picked Mahomes' pocket to close the game out.

Allen with a bullet to Knox to take the lead with a little more than a minute to go in the game. They left a lot of time on the clock, but the defense came in big to close out the win.

Mahomes finding Hardman for the 3 yard TD to tie tings up at the end of the 3rd quarter. Mahomes ended the game with 338 yards, with 2 TDs and 2 INTs.

This was alost a clone of the first TD. This time it was Allen Diggs to take the lead midway through the third quarter.

Butker drilled this 62 yarder to tie up the game at 10-10 right before the halftime break.

Allen and the Bills answered back with a deep shot to Gabe Davis for a TD. Those two are getting very comfortable connecting on big plays over the last couple weeks.

Smith-Schuster spinning his way out of tackles and taking it 42 yards for the first TD of the game.

Mahomes came into today having thrown two interceptions all season, but threw two in Sunday against the Bills.

The game got off to a sloppy start. Both teams turned the ball over in the red zone on their opening drives. Allen's pitch to Singletary was bobbled and recovered by the Harris.

It took a while to get cranked up, but the game of the year came down to the wire as we know it would.

In the end, it was the Buffalo defense that came up with the big play late in the game to hold of the Chiefs.

Johnson comes up with the big pick on to avoid any late game dramatics from Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. They intercepted the KC QB twice to double his total for the season.

Today's odds

According to BET365.com the Bills are 2.5 favorites on the road. The Over/Under is 54.5 between these two high flying teams.

The Chiefs getting points at home is too much to pass up. Take KC +2.5.

What kind of magic does Mahomes have in store? He has been putting on show after show since the start of the season. The play he had against the Bucs was maybe the best play I've ever seen a quarterback make.

The Bills have the top ranked offense and the second ranked defense in the league, but they haven’t faced an offense like Andy Reid’s side yet. Buffalo’s defense is giving up just 260.4 yards per game which is good enough for second best in the league. The 12.2 points they give up a game is tied for best in the league with the San Francisco.

Bills vs. Chiefs means Mahomes vs. Allen. The Chiefs QB has started off his season in MVP form and leads the league with 15 TD receptions. He is currently the second favorite to win the NFL MVP at +500. The Bills gun slinger has the most total yards, with 1,651 (330.2 average) and is the favorite to the win leagues Most Valuable Player award at +200.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been unstoppable at home this season, but face their toughest test of the season. Patrick Mahomes thrives in these spot light games, but knows he has another MVP candidate on the other side of the ball.

It was another primetime game for Kansas City, who have played three night games in the first five week of the season. They had to fight back against the Las Vegas Raiders, who went up 17-0 in the first half. Patrick Mahomes led the comeback with a fantastic finish after a slow start. Travis Kelce was like a moth to a flame when he was around the end zone. A few days after turning 33, he had four touchdowns to led the Chiefs to a dramatic win. Mahomes had 292 yards and four TDs .

The Bills demolished the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Josh Allen wasted no time ignited the Buffalo offense. He landed the knock out punch just a minute into the game. He found Gabe Davis on a 98 yard bomb to go up early, and the rest was down hill for the Bills who cruised to a 38-3 win over Kenny Pickett and the Steelers. Sean McDermott’s team piled up 552 yards of offense and Josh Allen passed for 424 yards and four touchdowns.
