Cam Ward makes scathing assessment of Titans before playing a single NFL snap
The No. 1 overall pick didn’t hold back, laying into Tennessee’s offense just days into his first NFL training camp.
Rookie quarterback Cam Ward isn’t sugarcoating the state of the Tennessee Titans. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft gave an honest assessment after his first few practices at Titans training camp, describing the team’s offense—himself included—as “very mid right now.”
The Titans are coming off a brutal 2024 season in which they finished dead last in the league, earning the top pick in April’s draft. They used it to select Ward, the dynamic QB out of the University of Miami, hoping he could help usher in a new era in Nashville.
But after just a handful of days working with his new teammates, Ward made it clear there’s plenty of work to do.
Ward: “It starts with me”
“I think just think we’re very mid right now—from my position to the receivers,” Ward said. “At the end of the day, it starts with me. I know I’m not where I need to be, but we’ve got time. We’re getting better every day. We’re a young team, but that’s no excuse.”
Cam Ward’s practice stats
According to the Titans, Ward finished Wednesday’s practice completing 11 of 23 passes, including an interception that came off a tipped ball by linebacker Cody Barton and was snagged by cornerback Roger McCreary. Through camp so far, the rookie has completed 57 of 101 attempts.
Still, Ward is staying positive—and focused on the process.
“It’s not about bouncing back. It’s about being better every day,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of things to clean up, especially me. But that actually excites me.”
Madden 26 rating revealed for Cam Ward
Ward’s rookie rating in Madden NFL 26 was released Wednesday, with the Titans’ quarterback earning a 72 overall and a “scrambling quarterback” archetype.
His highest-rated attribute is arm strength, which comes in at an impressive 91. His ability to throw on the run follows at 84.
Among all rookies, the top spot went to Jacksonville Jaguars CB/WR Travis Hunter, who was given an 84 overall. Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty came in just behind with an 83.
Ward may not be among the top-rated rookies just yet, but with a big arm and a team in full rebuild mode, the expectations—and the opportunities—are huge.
