Chargers 21 - 63 Raiders summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 15
Just two plays after the fumble returned for a TD, it was Jones who makes the one handed snag and takes the pick back for six! They had plenty of time to aim for the NFL record of 73 points, but this would be their final TD of the night as Las Vegas kept their very slim playoff chances alive.
The defense had been eating all night long, and the big man Jenkins got to feast after another strip sack from Koonce. Jenkins took it 44 yards to the house on the Raiders forth of five takeaways on the night.
Just about the only thing the Raiders didn't do in the first half was get Adams into the endzone, but that changed with this trick play in which Meyers hit Adams for a 4 yard TD off the later.
For the second time on the night, the Raiders rookies connect for a TD. This one came right before the half as O'Connell went into the break with 198 yards, 4 TDs. He ended the night with 4 TDs and 248 yards passing on a night in which the Raiders only gained 378 yards. I say only because they put up 63, but it would be their defense doing the work in the second half.
Bolden got out ot the edge and saw his big boys down field clearing out space. He went 24 yards untouched into the endzone for the second rushing TD of the Raiders night. This was one of Bolden's two rushes on the night as he went for 25 yards and this TD. LV totaled 124 yards and two TDs on the ground against the Chargers.
The Chargers fumbled a punt which gave LV the ball back inside the 15 and O'Connell hit Mayer for the TD off the play action fake. At that point, the game was already over but the Raiders still had plenty more in the tank.
O'Connell had four TDs in the first half, this was his second of the night. He let Meyers go chase it and the WR didn't disappoint making a spectacular sprawling catch in the endzone.
On the first offensive play after the Stick strip sack, it was Kelley who coughed it up and the Raiders were quick to pounce, setting up another TD just a few plays later.
Just a few plays later it was O'Connell and Tucker linking up for a 31 yard TD pass as the rookies connected for the first time in their debut year in the NFL.
The story of the night, other than the Raiders six first half TDs, is the Chargers three first half fumbles. It started with the strip sack on Stick and got worse as the half went on.
LV held the Chargers to a three and out on the opening drive of the night and then took their first drive into the endzone thanks to Zamir White's rushing TD with no Josh Jacobs available today. It was the Raiders first TD since Week 12 after getting shut out last week against the Vikings.

The Raiders go three and out after the Chargers get a quick stop. They aren't going to get back into this game, but they can at least ocme out and compete in this second half and that's what they have done so far.

Not many highligts coming from the Chargers tonight, so we will take our chance to put a TD on the highlight reel. Palmer with the 79 yard TD and the LA social media wrokers are enthused as you can see.

LA finally get on the board and they do so with a 79 yard TD catch and run to a wide open Palmer to get LA into the endzone and ease some of the embarassement.

Just about the only thing the Raiders hadn't done was get Adams into the endzone, but that changed with this trick play in which Meyers hit Adams for a 4 yard TD off the later.

The Chargers start the game with the ball, and move the ball to the 35, but go three and out and will punt to start the game. They have become all to familiar with bringing the punt unit on over the last few weeks.
Mack attack
Khalili Mack used to be a force on the Raiders defense. He was drafted by the then Oakland Raiders in 2014, and stayed there for four years before getting signed by the Bears as a free agent. He came to LA last season, and in his 10th season in the league, he is having a career year. He has 15 sacks and has forced five fumbles, and exacted his revenge against the Raiders in the earlier matchup between these two teams. He sacked Jimmy Garoppolo six times, coming just one short of Derrick Thomas’s record of 7 sacks back in 1990. Tonight he will be looking to tee off on the Chargers again with the sack record of 22.5 in his sights.
AFC Standings
Taking a look at the AFC Standings we see the Chiefs leading the West with a record of 8-5. LA and LV have almost no chance, if any, to win the division which means they have to set their sights on an outside shot of a Wild Card spot. If the season ended today, the Browns would be the top Wild Card seed with a record of 8-5, and just below them sit the Steelers and Colts at 7-6 with the final two playoff spots. Outside of the playoff picture sit four other teams at 7-6, and then the Raiders and the Chargers two games back at 5-8. Neither are mathematically out of the playoffs, but a loss here tonight would seal their postseason fate.
Tonight both teams come in extremely short handed, but the Raiders who didn't score a single point last week will be without their starting RB and a rookie QB under center. That means Maxx Crosby and the defense is going to have to buckle down even more tonight if they are going to have any chance of making a run at the playoffs in the final few weeks of the season.
Jacobs out
It’s been a long fall from grace for Raiders running back Josh Jacobs who led the NFL in rushing last season. He gained 1,653 yards and ran for 12 TDs last year, which he and most of the league thought was good enough for a big pay raise, but the Raiders put a franchise tag on him to avoid having to pay him for another year. This year he has been a shadow of himself because the passing game has been almost non existent. Tonight the frustration adds as he is sidelined with a quad injury that kept him out of practice all season.
Time to Stick in
Late in the first half of last week’s game against the Broncos, Justin Herbert hit his hand on a defenders helmet after following through on a pass, and fractured a finger on his throwing hand. The young gun slinger is used to playing with pain, and has gutted through rib and hip injuries before but a broken finger on his throwing hand is enough to keep Herbert out for the rest of the season. Starting under center tonight will be Easton Stick who before last week had thrown just one pass in the NFL. That pass came in 2020 when he was a member of the Chargers. Last week he filled in for Herbert for the second half of action and went 13-24 for 179 yards and led the Chargers into the end zone on their only scoring drive of the game.
Raiders last week
It was just about as boring of a game as you could get in Las Vegas last week. The Raiders put up a donut. Yep. ZERO points against the Minnesota Vikings as Aidan O’Connell and the Raiders turned the ball over three times, gained just over 200 yards and got into the red zone only once in a shutout loss in Allegiant Stadium. The Vikings didn’t do much better, but they did manage a 36 yard Greg Joseph field goal with 1:57 on the clock which was enough to win 3-0 in a game that featured 17 punts. There have been seven 3-0 games in the history of the NFL since the Super Bowl era started.
Chargers last week
After scoring just six points in New England, and winning the week before the Chargers posted just seven in their loss to the Broncos in LA last week. Justin Herbert started the game but didn’t finish it after breaking a finger on his throwing hand late in the first half. Herbert had failed to get the Chargers into the end zone before getting hurt, and his back up Easton Stick didn’t do much better. Denver’s D held the Chargers to 0-12 on third down, and 1-6 on 4th down conversions as Russell Wilson and the offense gave the defense a rare lead to protect. Austin Ekeler cut into the 17-0 lead with an early TD in the fourth quarter, but Denver would close the game out with a 13 play, 7 minute drive that was capped off with a 10 yard TD reception by Adam Trautman.

Hello everyone and welcome to Vegas where it’s now or never for both the Raiders and the Chargers. Both of these teams were tabbed to at least be playoff contenders, but coming into tonight they are three games under .500 and even if one of the two sides win out they will most likely need a lot of external help. Vegas have done themselves no favors over the last few weeks, losing three straight coming into tonight while averaging just 10 points per game in those losses. The Chargers saw their starting QB go down last week, but their troubles have plagued them much before their game against the Broncos just on Sunday. They have lost four of their last five games and over the last three games they are having an even tougher time putting points on the board, averaging just over 7 ppg.

Is it too late for these two AFC West teams to consider a late season run to make the playoffs? It might be, but the Las Vegas Raiders are set to host the LA Chargers in a must win battle for both teams who are coming into the final four weeks of the season at 5-8.
