Chiefs and Chargers get major boosts ahead of Week 1 clash in Brazil
Kansas City’s Hollywood Brown and Los Angeles’ Najee Harris cleared to play as AFC West rivals open 2025 season in São Paulo.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers will play the first international game of the 2025 NFL season, with Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil serving as the stage for the Week 1 AFC West clash.
Hollywood Brown “full go” for Chiefs
Both teams received major roster boosts ahead of Friday’s matchup. Kansas City wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has been removed from the injury report, clearing him to play.
The 28-year-old is looking to revive his career in Kansas City after a difficult stretch with injuries. Brown missed the first 15 weeks of the 2024 season with a sternoclavicular injury, appearing in just two games — one as a starter — as the Chiefs reached the Super Bowl but fell to the Philadelphia Eagles.
This summer, Brown was sidelined again after suffering a foot and ankle injury in late July. He has now fully recovered.
“Wide receiver Hollywood Brown officially off the injury report and is going to play tonight against the Chargers,” NFL reporter Tom Pelissero said on “Good Morning Football.” “He’s been ramping up over the past couple of weeks here, and when I asked exactly what his role might be tonight, I was told specifically, ‘Hollywood is full go.’”
With fellow wide receiver Rashee Rice suspended for the first six games, Brown’s return is a timely boost for coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs offense.
Najee Harris ready for Chargers debut
The Chargers also received positive news as running back Najee Harris was cleared to make his first appearance for the team. Harris joined Los Angeles in March, but his availability for Week 1 had been in doubt after he suffered an eye injury in a Fourth of July fireworks accident.
“We saw Najee over the last couple of weeks begin to ramp up, do some conditioning work on the side,” Pelissero explained. “He was only cleared for contact about 10 days ago, but they moved him to the active roster. Coach Jim Harbaugh has expressed a lot of confidence about Harris’ ability to play in this game tonight. He is going to be out there on the field.”
