With the Dallas Cowboys triumphing over the Washington Commanders by a score of 25-10, Cooper Rush established his name in the history books of the ‘Lone Star’ franchise.

Rush became the first quarterback in Cowboys history to win his first four games as a starter. The 28-year-old QB was 15-of-27 for 223 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, the quarterback had seven yards on two carries and was only sacked once, by defensive tackle Josh Allen.

Three wins and one loss

Dallas has had a rich history of star quarterbacks, but before Rush, only Roger Staubach and Jason Garrett had won their first three starts with the Cowboys.

Staubach won his first game of his rookie year with 220 yards and a TD on 7/15 shooting against the St. Louis Cardinals. The next three starts he made until his second year in the league and beat the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants before losing to the Cardinals in his fourth game as a starter.

Garrett was Troy Aikman’s backup during the eight years he was a Cowboys player. In the 1993 season, the Hall of Famer was injured and Garrett earned his first start against the Phoenix Cardinals. During his second year in the league, Garrett passed the Packers for the most yards in his career (#11).

Until 1998 he had another chance to be a starter due to Aikman’s broken shoulder. In his third game as QB1 Garrett beat the New York Giants, but in the fourth he lost to the Oakland Raiders.
