Dak Prescott in “the best shape of his life”

At this time last year, Dak Prescott was still rehabbing a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. This year, though, he says he’s in “the best shape of his life”.

“A couple of weeks out and I’m in the best shape that I’ve ever been in,” Prescott said. “So, it’s time to ramp it up and get going.”

It’s not just smoke and mirrors for Prescott, who has been working with a personal trainer throughout the entire offseason, including when he’s on vacation.

“We work on these movements and stretches. I feel like, since the injury, I’ve trained more functional than I ever have. So, I see it in my body, I see it the way I move and how the ball is coming out.”

Prescott finished last season with 4,449 passing yards and a Cowboys’ franchise record 37 touchdowns.

Local radio engineer Ted Nichols-Payne dead at 56

Dallas local sports radio engineer Ted Nichols-Payne, who worked for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers for more than 30 years, died on Sunday. At just 56 years old, Nichols-Payne collapsed in the parking lot of Globe Life Field just before the Rangers game. He was taken to a hospital and later died there. He was the primary engineer and technical director for the Rangers radio broadcasts from 1995 to 2010 for KRLD-AM and 105.3 FM The FAN. In 2015, he took over for the FAN again when their radio rights returned. Having spent so many years with the Cowboys and Rangers, both radio teams sent social media messages of shock and sadness, and appreciation for all he did for the organizations. Nichols-Payne leaves behind three daughters.

Tony Romo wins American Century golf tournament

Tony Romo’s golf career has taken off! Since his retirement from the NFL, he’s become just as great of an announcer and is proving to be a talented golfer as well. On Sunday, Romo got his third career win at the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament.

He won in 2018 and 2019 as well. It was a sudden-death ending amongst him and two other players - former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder and Dallas Stars’ Joe Pavelski. All three carded a 62 in the three-day Stableford format at the end of regulation. Romo’s four birdies and one bogey on Sunday were enough to get him to first place.

Cowboys and Dalton Schultz could still come to long-term agreement

This Friday, July 15 at 1 p.m. ET, is the deadline for certain NFL teams and players to come to a decision - long-term deals or franchise tags. During the offseason, the Cowboys tagged tight end Dalton Schultz. Schultz signed it, but then only showed up for the first half of the voluntary activities, citing that he was not pleased about the negotiations.

The Cowboys have been reluctant to offer Schultz a long-term deal because of the financial and time commitments. Schultz has some fuel to is argument for a long-term contract after the Browns gave David Njiku a four-year, $56.75 million deal. The Cowboys have the salary cap space to do it, but whether or not they will remains to be seen.
