The Dallas Cowboys begin their training camp in Oxnard, California this week. The players set off today with rookies and veterans alike expected to be there by Wednesday, July 24, when the opening press conference was originally scheduled to be held. That has now been postponed to this weekend, as owner Jerry Jones made his way to court this morning in a trial that could last four to five days.

Instead, the opening press conference will be held on Saturday as part of the Cowboys’ annual Back Together Weekend.

Jones heads to trial Monday morning

Jones is heading to trial as part of an ongoing lawsuit involving Alexandra Davis, a 27-year-old woman who claims to be his daughter. After she sought to prove he was her father and sued him for defamation, Jones countersued, saying that she broke the settlement agreement that her mother Cynthia signed in 1998. He is now also seeking $1.6 million from Davis to cover the legal expenses he incurred.

A judge earlier ruled that the settlement agreement was indeed a valid contract. The contract states that Jones would send payments to Davis throughout Alexandra’s childhood and adulthood in exchange for her silence about his paternity. The Davises plan to appeal the ruling, but won’t be able to do so until after the trial.

Davis’ defamation lawsuit was dismissed, and now Jones has become the plaintiff and Davis the defendant in the trial which started this morning (Monday) at 9 a.m. Jones, Alexandra, and Cynthia are all expected to speak at the trial, which is being held in a U.S. district court in Texarkana.
