Cowboys update unofficial depth chart ahead of Week 2 preseason game: Initial reactions

The Dallas Cowboys have released their second unofficial depth chart ahead of preseason Week 2 and there are two big points of note.

A week ago, the Dallas Cowboys released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of their preseason opener against the Rams. Since then, not much has changed. The Cowboys lost the season opener 13-12, with familiar red zone troubles keeping them out of the end zone and kicker Brandon Aubrey being the lone Cowboy to score all 12 points on four field goals.

As the Cowboys prepare to head to Vegas for Week 2 of the preseason against the Raiders, they have released their second unofficial depth chart with a few updates.

Cowboys update second unofficial depth chart

The first thing you’ll probably notice is the glaring lack of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. There is no need to panic. Although the Cowboys indeed still have not come to an agreement on a contract for Lamb, the receiver will still have a roster spot as soon as he returns - and he will return.

Last week, the Cowboys placed Lamb on the Reserve/Did Not Report list, something they could have done in the beginning of training camp. It does not by any means signify that they don’t expect Lamb to come back. It simply means that they now need the roster space (thanks to injuries) whereas they didn’t before.

The thing is, the NFL teams are required to release these unofficial depth charts, so they should be taken with a grain of salt. One other point of note on this update is that veteran tackle Chuma Edoga is still listed ahead of rookie Tyler Guyton, despite the fact that we know Edoga has suffered an injury that will keep him out well into the start of the regular season. It’s just another indication that these charts really are unofficial and don’t mean too much. We shouldn’t overreact.
