More than a month after suffering a heart attack during the regular season game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin has expressed his gratitude for the support that the entire NFL community has given him.

Through a nearly six-minute Instagram Reel, the 24-year-old defensive back declared his thanks to everyone who has supported him.

“I want to thank all of you for helping me get to this moment where I can speak directly to you,” Hamlin said.

The Pittsburgh graduate also thanked the entire Bills medical team for their quick response to his situation. Without their immediate action, Hamlin would not have survived after being revived twice inside Paycor Stadium. He also spoke of his appreciation for the doctors of the Cincinnati General Medical Center and the Buffalo General Medical Center.

GoFund Me

Hamlin had a GoFund Me set up for his foundation Chasing M’s, and prior to the event had a set goal of $2,500 to support the children and youth of McKee Rocks, Pennsylvania. Now, the fund has amassed more than $9 million.

During the video, the Bills player stated that he has always sought to help his community, even before coming to the NFL. He announced that he will now seek to help children throughout the United States.

“That’s something that started before I got to the NFL, something that started small to affect my little community in McKee Rocks,” Hamlin said.

“I just wanted to do my part and help the community as soon as I went out to fulfill my dream. Now you’ve taken it and I’m excited about what I have planned for the future of children across the country.”
