The National Football League has appealed against judge Sue L. Robinson’s six-game suspension of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson over allegations of sexual harassment and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has appointed former New Jersy state attorney Peter C. Harvey to review the case. While the Browns face a wait to learn what fate will be decreed for their starting quarterback on the eve of the new NFL season, Watson has been confirmed in the role for the pre-season game against the Jaguars on 12 August.

According to a report from The Associated Press, Watson would be willing to accept an eight-game suspension and a $5 million fine in order to resolve the matter and not miss the entire NFL season.

However, according to the same report, the NFL is seeking a suspension of at least 17 games, a fine of more than $5m and that Watson be evaluated and treated medically to determine if he is fit to be reinstated in the NFL.

Garoppolo in consideration

With the uncertainty being generated by the Watson situation in Cleveland, the Browns have started to examine their options in the quarterback position and a possible solution has emerged from outside the franchise.

According to a report by Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, the Browns have considered approaching 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo over a potential trade if Watson’s suspension is extended.

As things stand, the Browns have Jacoby Brissett, Joshua Dobbs and Josh Rosen as their quarterbacks on the roster for the new NFL season.
