Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys: LIVE
Dallas defeats Detroit: Game Summary
Prescott is back, but looked a little rusty
The Dallas Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions in quarterback Dak Prescott's first game back with Dallas in five weeks. He had a rusty start to the game, throwing some sloppy passes and near picks, but he started to knock the dust off in the second half. He finished with 207 yards, 2 sacks, one touchdown pass, and no interceptions. On the other hand, quarterback Jared Goff and the Lions had five turnovers (three fumbles and two interceptions).
Defense dominated the game on both sides of the ball
In the first half, neither team could get the ball into the end zone. The Dallas and Detroit defense were making stops and turnovers to play a back-and-forth keepaway game that ended in two field goals for the Lions and one for the Cowboys to end the first half 6-3 Detroit. All the while, Prescott looked rusty. His first pass of the game was thrown too high, incomplete, and nearly picked. Dallas went 3 and out twice in a row.
Dallas gets 3 touchdowns in second half, set up by turnovers
The second half is when things started to get interesting. Things picked up for the Dallas offense and the Dallas defense stopped the Lions from getting another point on the board the rest of the game.
Despite Dallas' defense dominating the game, the Detroit defense has to be given credit too. They held off the Cowboys offense several times and rookie Aidan Hutchinson sacked Prescott two times after blowing past their offensive linemen.
But the Dallas defense made the important plays that led the Cowboys to their first two touchdowns. An interception by Trevon Diggs set up a drive that led to an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown - Dallas' first of the day - in the 3rd quarter. It took a while, but they did almost exactly that same thing again in the 4th quarter when Jourdan Lewis caught an interception and set up another drive that led Zeke to his second TD of the day and gave Dallas a 17-6 lead. Between those two touchdowns, the Lions made a devastating decision to not challenge what looked very much like a touchdown. It was ruled just short, they went for it on the next play only to fumble it and give it back to Dallas again. On that drive, the Lions defense managed to not let Dallas get anywhere, but then they just gave it away again on the Lewis interception.
The third touchdown of the day for the Cowboys came after Goff fumbled the ball and Williams recovered it. That set up Prescott's first touchdown pass of the season, a toss to tight end Peyton Hendershot for two yards. Happy National Tight Ends Day to Hendershot! That sealed the deal for the Cowboys, who defeated the Lions 24-6.
The Cowboys now advance to 5-2. They will face the Chicago Bears at home next week.
The Lions fall to 1-5 and will face the Dolphins at home in Week 8.

GAME TIME!
And we're off! The Cowboys won the toss and have elected to receive. It's game time.
Two Cowboys defensive players fined last week
The Cowboys suffered a rough loss to the Eagles last week, but they still have to learn to keep their cool. Their two defensive stars, Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs, both failed to do that. At two different moments, they both got Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalties and since then have been fined for them. Parsons was fined $10,609 and Diggs was fined $9,577.
They should have a better day against Detroit, but even still, in the future, they'll need to keep those tempers under control.
Cowboys defense vs Lions offense
Both teams' offensive lines have done a good job protecting the quarterback this season. The Cowboys offensive line have only allowed nine sacks this season, but the Lions have only allowed seven.
Though Prescott is rusty, this game may come down to the defense. That's where Dallas has the advantage. The Lions defense has only recorded seven sacks this year, the worst in the league. The Cowboys defense has recorded 24, the most in the league. If they can put the pressure on Jared Goff, they'll be in good shape.
Hey, the coaches have to work out, too!
Cowboys vs Lions INJURY REPORT
Detroit Lions: Injury Report
The Lions placed WR DJ Clark and DB Bobby Price on IR last week and now, it's been confirmed they'll be without RB D'Andre Swift for the third week in a row. The Lions have a total of eight offensive linemen active for the game, which makes them eligible to expand the game-day roster from 46 to 48. So, they had to declare seven inactive.

S Ifeatu Melifonwu
CB Will Harris

Cowboys Inactives
DT Neville Gallimore
LB Jabril Cox
S Markquese Bell
LB Devin Harper
CB Nahshawn Wright
QB Will Grier
Dak is back!
The Cowboys quarterback has been out since Week 1 when he broke his thumb in the season opener loss to Tampa Bay. He had surgery on September 12 and was medically cleared to play earlier this week. He came back to full practices on Wednesday.
The Cowboys did better than expected with backup Cooper Rush in at QB, winning four straight and only losing to the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles last week. Against the Eagles, it was clearer that Rush is still an inexperienced starter and he saw his first interceptions. In that game he threw three picks compared to his other four games, in which he had none, but did have 839 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Though some may have tried to make a quarterback battle out of this, no one was really fooled into believing that Rush compares to Prescott. Now that he's back after five weeks, Prescott is the starter without question but may get off to a slow start as he continues to recover and get back into the swing of things - a perfect time for him to do so in a home game against a weaker Lions defense. They have given up the most pointe to opposing teams in the league, with an average of 34 points per game.
Cowboys vs Lions - where they stand
The Cowboys started off the season with a loss to the Buccaneers and a loss of their starting quarterback Dak Prescott to a thumb injury. They went on to win the next four straight games with Cooper Rush at quarterback until the undefeated Eagles broke their streak. They go into the game today at 4-2 and in third place in the NFC East.
The Lions are coming off a bye week last week after an embarrassing loss to the Patriots in which Detroit didn't get a single point on the board. They started the year with a surprisingly close loss to the Eagles and have since only won one game to bring their record to 1-4 at the bottom of the NFC North standings.
