George Kittle’s contract details: What’s his yearly salary with the San Francisco 49ers?
Making nearly $10 million in salary cap space during the financial process, the 49ers restructured their tight end’s contract, which ends in 2028.
In 2020, George Kittle agreed to a lucrative five-year, $75 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. As per the terms of the deal, he was set to receive a base salary of $13.4 million for the current season, and his contract would have a cap hit of $21.956 million.
Kittle, 30, has been a standout performer for the 49ers since being drafted in the fifth round in 2017. He has amassed an impressive 460 receptions for 6,274 yards and 37 touchdowns, earning him five Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors. During the previous season, he confirmed his skills by catching 65 passes for 1,020 yards and six touchdowns in 16 games and taking his team to the Super Bowl game, where they lost against the current champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kittle’s contract restructuring details
In the Super Bowl aftermath, on March 15, 2024, the two interested parties agreed to Convert $12.19M of 2024 salary into a signing bonus, adding one void year and clearing $9.752M of the cap with San Francisco. In 2024, Kittle will earn a base salary of $1,210,000, a restructure bonus of $12,190,000, and a workout bonus of $100,000 while carrying a cap hit of $12,204,575 and a dead cap value of $30,523,725.
With this maneuver, the San Francisco team will have a cap space of $20,129,150 next season and $13,334,575 in the 2026 season. One might ask why this is all restructuring and what potential hints it can give us. Probably, the management wants to make space for additional signings that can elevate the team’s game even more or prepare to offer a max contract to one of their players already on the roster, like Brook Purdy.
