Giants 2022 NFL season preview, schedule: New York to win NFC East?
No team has won the NFC East in consecutive years over the past 17 seasons, and the Giants could end up back on top in the division in 2022.
Under the new regime of head coach Brian Daboll, things look different for the Giants going into the 2022 NFL season. There are several reasons why New York could end up as champions of the NFC East.
The first is that for the past 17 seasons no team has won the division in consecutive years. The last time that happened was between 2001 and 2004, when the Philadelphia Eagles dominated.
Daboll looks to repeat Allen success with Jones
Although Daniel Jones will be entering his fourth year as an NFL quarterback, the new coach is confident he can improve under his tutelage. When introduced as the new boss, Daboll pledged to develop Jones’ talents and turn 2021′s 31st-ranked offence into something better in 2022.
The challenge won’t be easy, but the former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator has in his favour the experience he gained turning Josh Allen from a first-round prospect to a franchise QB. He’ll also have the help of Mike Kafka, the Giants’ new offensive coordinator, as he looks to make good on his promise. Kafka spent the last four seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Giants stronger in both offence and defence
What’s more, the Giants bolstered both sides of the line of scrimmage with their first-round picks in the last Draft. In defence, they selected defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux and in offence, tackle Evan Neal. The two players were in the running to be the No. 1 overall pick, but were finally picked up by the Giants at five and seven, respectively.
In addition to this, Don Martindale will take the reins of the Giants’ defensive unit. The former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator was instrumental in the AFC North team having one of the top running defences over the past five years.
Given that the NFC East’s combined record was 32-36 and they will be facing the AFC South, the four teams in the division will have the easiest schedules in the entire league.
