How does Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young feel about being benched ahead of Week 3?
As they prepare for their Week 3 clash with the Las Vegas Raiders, the Carolina Panthers do so having benched their starting quarterback. How’s that going?
With a 0-2 record, one could say the Carolina Panthers are not in the best position as we get ready for Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season. As any football fan knows, there is no time to waste in a campaign that lasts for only 18 weeks. To that end, it’s not surprising that the Panthers have taken steps to address the situation, including benching the team’s starting quarterback. On the other hand, such decisions never come without consequences.
Bryce Young is not happy with his situation
Regardless of where you stand on this one, what we know for certain is that the Carolina Panthers have benched second-year quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. Understandably, Young is not pleased in the least about his current status.
According to reports from ESPN, Young, who will now have to backup veteran journeyman Andy Dalton has been described as “pissed.” That said, it’s worth noting that the report also goes on to indicate that despite the situation, the locker room is “still invested” in first-year coach Dave Canales and believes that Dalton is the right player to lead the offense at this time as the team looks to get its season back on track.
Of course, while Young’s scenario is the most high-profile one the team faces right here and now, it is by no means the only one as the Panthers’ roster concerns are several in number. To that end, one could even argue that whether it’s Young or Dalton leading the line, it’s still going to be hard to win. Yet, special mention must be made of the Panthers’ passing game or lack thereof. To date, the team has in a word, been poor. This is to say, a switch to Dalton can’t hurt. Ultimately, this is going to be a difficult stretch for everybody involved.
On one side, we’ve got a young quarterback whose ego will undoubtedly have taken a blow. On the other, we’ve got a franchise that hasn’t exactly given him the best offensive tools to work with i.e., some of the fault does lie with the front office. Where do both parties go from here? That’s hard to say but such challenges are synonymous with the high-stakes world of the NFL which means it comes down to how well they are met. For the moment, we watch and wait.
