COWBOYS
How serious is Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks’ injury?
On Thursday, Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks had to leave practice early with apparent knees soreness, while WR1 CeeDee Lamb continues his holdout.
The injuries are piling up for the Cowboys. They lost defensive end Sam Williams to a season-ending injury early in training camp, quarterback Dak Prescott had to sit out with ankle soreness last week, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown sat out the end of practice on Wednesday due to a hip pointer, offensive tackle Earl Bostick Jr. is slated to have surgery on an injured leg, and now the Cowboys saw their wide receiver 2 Brandin Cooks exit practice early on Thursday.
The severity of Cooks’ injury
With Cowboys’ WR1 CeeDee Lamb still holding out from training camp until his pay raise comes, Brandin Cooks is the main man. But on Thursday, when he was working on individual drills, he stopped and went to the medical tent for evaluation. After that, he went to the locker room and sat out the rest of practice.
Fortunately, it doesn’t look like Cooks suffered a serious injury. Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com reported that Cooks was dealing with some knee soreness, but that it does not look like it will be an issue moving forward - just something to keep an eye on.
Tolbert steps up
Thankfully, wide receiver Jalen Tolbert, who is expected to gain the WR3 spot, stood out in practice on Thursday and has been impressing throughout training camp.
Tolbert made several impactful plays during practice on Thursday during 7-on-7 drills, including catching a deep pass from Dak Prescott for a 40-yard gain.
With Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson being Dak’s favorite targets last year, Tolbert ended the season with 22 catches for 268 yards and two touchdowns. With last year’s WR3 Michael Gallup out of the picture, Tolbert will have a chance to expand on those stats this coming season.
