Deshaun Watson was handed a six-game suspension on Monday for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Sue L. Robinson, a retired federal judge, was the one to oversee the case, after being appointed jointly by the league and its Players Association. The NFL has until Thursday to appeal the ruling and try to enact further punishment for Watson.

This suspension follows after a 16 month NFL investigation into sexual harassment allegations made by at least 24 woman. It’s also the NFL’s first personal conduct case to not be settled by the NFL commissioner, but rather by a disciplinary committee.

Throughout these months, Watson continued to deny the claims and prove innocent. He had previously reached settlements with 20 of the 24 women who filed civil lawsuits against him in June, and now he’s also settled the four remaining cases.

While Robinson says Watson’s pattern of behavior “was egregious,” but “nonviolent,” having him miss only a few games, keep his job, and still earn more money than significant players in the NFL is causing a huge stir on the internet.

How much money will Deshaun Watson lose?

And speaking of money, the Cleveland quarterback now stands to lose $345,000 astride the suspension, only a part of his $1 million base salary. That’s still earning $45.65 million this year alone out of his original fully guaranteed $230million contract, which was the fattest QB deal in the league.

How will all this affect Watson’s contract with the Browns?

So what now for the former Texan? It seems that Watson is actually suiting up for practice as the league allows players with suspensions to train during the preseason. The only difference is, he is only allowed to get massage therapy sessions from club therapists

By the time he’s able to play for the Browns in Week 7, Watson will have missed 22 months of action in total. According to the NFL schedule, his first time on the field should be against the Baltimore Ravens on October 23.

The Browns are no doubtedly pleased with the news of their main quarterback missing the easiest part of the season, with more than enough time to chase the 2022 playoffs and potentially win the AFC North.
