Update:

It was a tense, low-scoring affair in Green Bay on Monday night, as the Philadelphia Eagles escaped Lambeau Field with a narrow 10–7 victory over the Packers in a primetime matchup dominated by defense and missed opportunities.

While Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love both struggled to find rhythm in a game sold as a quarterback showdown, the spotlight ultimately shifted to Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, and one decision that left fans and analysts stunned.

“I stand by that call”: Sirianni defends risky late-game decision

With just 30 seconds remaining and the Eagles clinging to a 10–7 lead, Sirianni opted to keep his offense on the field on 4th-and-6, rather than punt or attempt a field goal that could have stretched the lead to six. The bold call nearly backfired when Hurts’ pass to A.J. Brown fell incomplete, handing Green Bay the ball back near midfield with 27 seconds on the clock.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, the Packers failed to take advantage, with a missed field goal attempt sealing the Eagles’ seventh win of the season. Still, Sirianni’s gamble quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

After the game, Sirianni defended his thinking, saying that a field goal attempt in Lambeau’s swirling winds didn’t feel like the safer option.

“I stand put on that decision,” Sirianni told reporters. “Being up three, if you go up six, they still need a touchdown. We would have ended the game if we’d gotten that, and I’ve got a lot of faith in our guys to make that play.”

While some questioned why Sirianni didn’t consider punting to pin the Packers deep, the coach made clear that his aggressive philosophy remains unchanged. “I trust this team to finish games on our terms,” he added.

The decision will likely spark debate throughout the week, but with the Eagles now 7–2 and widening their NFC East lead, Sirianni’s confidence in his players, and his penchant for gutsy calls, is hard to argue with when the results keep coming.
