The Dallas Cowboys got a late start to Sunday Night Football last night when a lightning storm delayed the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers by an hour and a half. Eventually, they made it onto the field and beat the Steelers 20-17. However, during the waiting period, NBC’s Football Night in America showed a clip of some of the Cowboys players in the locker room, one of which had fans a bit concerned.

Ezekiel Elliott injured?

The Cowboys have been struggling to get their run game going for a long time now and running back Ezekiel Elliott was supposed to be their RB1 this season. So far, however, he’s failed to make much of an impact with just 30 carries for 98 yards and one touchdown (in Week 1) through five games.

What made fans even more concerned ahead of the game though was a clip that aired of Ezekiel Elliott appearing to suffer from some shoulder pain.

As Elliott went to put on his shoulder pads, he seemed to struggle as he lifted them over his head. He ended up putting them back down and rubbed his right shoulder, which had a bandage over it, and appeared to be experiencing some discomfort.

Elliott had been on the injury report last Thursday, but that was due to dehydration, not a shoulder injury. By Friday, he was a full participant in practice and he played in Sunday’s game against the Steelers. He ended the game with just six carries for 17 yards while fellow running back Rico Dowdle had a breakout game and carried the load for the Cowboys’ run game with 114 scrimmage yards and a receiving touchdown on 22 touches.

There have been no updates as of this writing that Zeke suffered any kind of injury to his shoulder worth noting, so it could just be that he was nursing a bit of soreness. If he is injured, the Cowboys would have to report it as part of the NFL rules. Either way, with Zeke’s 3.3 yards per carry this season, he’s taken a backseat to Dowdle in Dallas’ running back committee.
