The Dallas Cowboys vs Pittsburgh Steelers game was set to kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET from Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but severe weather sent the game into a delay.

Severe thunderstorms and lightning ahead of Steelers vs Cowboys

Severe storms hit over the stadium just as kickoff was scheduled to get underway at 8:20 p.m. ET. Storm clouds moved in just around that time and lightning was spotted in the area. Pittsburgh was under a severe weather alert with 60 mph wind gusts and hail until 11 p.m. ET.

This line of storms had produced some hail already and had the potential for tornadoes. The NFL doesn’t typically postpone or suspend games just because of rain, but because there was lightning in the area, they delayed it by 30 minutes at first, and another hour after that when the lightning didn’t let up.

The players returned to the locker room after their warmups and were brought food while they waited. The players remained suited up and fans waited it out in the covered areas of the stadium and were not made to exit. The storms let up at around 9:30 p.m. ET and the fans made their way back to the stands and the players made their way back to the field.

A new game start of 9:45 p.m. ET. was announced and the game was finally able to get underway.
