Is he worth it? Carlton Davis signs for $60 million with the Patriots, will he prove his true value?
The Detroit Lions lost their defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn this offseason and now one of their top secondary guys is on his way out of the Motor City.

The New England Patriots were one of the worst teams in the league last year, and there is a lot of work to be done as a new era begins in Foxborough. On Monday, the Pats made a big splash in the free agent market, bringing in cornerback Carlton Davis.
Pats padding secondary
The legal negotiating period in the NFL started at noon on Monday, and there have big some massive deals agreed upon around the league. The former Detroit Lion is one of the latest to get a big money contract after signing a three-year, $60 million dollar deal with the Patriots.
Davis formed part of the Lions defense and was a key piece of their secondary last season. The cornerback claimed he was entering the market looking for top dollar and landed a new deal that has $34.5 million of guaranteed money.
He leaves Detroit after just one season following his trade from Tampa Bay to the Motor City last season. He made $14.5 million last year with the Lions, and will average $20 million over the next three seasons in New England.
Horn makes history with Panthers
The multi-talented Davis had one of the best seasons of his career, registering 56 tackles, two picks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and 11 pass deflections. The Patriots need help everywhere, but their defense was especially vulnerable last year.
While he may have been looking for top dollar, his deal lands him as the seventh best paid cornerback in the league. Jaycee Horn of the Carolina Panthers just signed a deal worth $100 million over the next four years, making him the king of the corners. Horn may be the highest paid corner ever, but his numbers weren’t that much better than Davis’, if any. He had 68 totals tackles, 1 interceptions, no forced fumbles or fumble recoveries, but he did had 13 pass deflections.
Pats owner Robert Kraft will be hoping for a change in the season to come with the addition of Davis and new head coach Mike Vrable. Vrable was part of the New England dynasty early this century, playing linebacker for the Pats from 2001-2008 and winning three Super Bowls.
