Update:

Arguably the most exciting rookie to watch in the 2025 season is going to be Jacksonville Jaguars’ No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter. The dual-threat talent is set to play as both a cornerback on defense as well as a wide receiver on offense.

After thriving (and I do mean thriving) at both positions in college, Hunter was determined to prove he could maintain that level as a pro. And the Jaguars were willing to give him a shot. Coach Liam Coen has now revealed how they plan to utilize the rookie sensation in 2025.

Liam Coen opens up about the Travis Hunter experiment

In a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, Coen confirmed that Hunter will continue his two-way approach with the Jaguars - music to fans’ ears. He explained that the team has been working closely with Hunter to build a balanced plan that incorporates player feedback.

“We kind of built the plan, sat him down, and really talked through it,” said Coen.

At the Jaguars’ minicamp, Hunter already began splitting time between offense and defense, a setup that will continue into training camp. The Jaguars are leaning into the uniqueness of Hunter’s skill set, and if all goes well, he could redefine how NFL talent is utilized on both sides of the ball.

“Every day he was on offense, but he also met with the defensive staff in the afternoons, and vice versa,” Coen said. “Typically in the offseason he was on one side of the ball in practice and he didn’t flip-flop. Today he did, and he played on both sides of the ball in practice today. That’s gonna have to continue on throughout Training Camp because that’s what he’s going to have to do in games.
