Jaguars - Dolphins injury report for NFL week 1: Malik Washington, Jalen Ramsey and Daniel Thomas
The Dolphins have cleared out their casualty room ahead of their 2024 NFL season opener at home to the Jaguars.
It was a fraught start to the week for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel who found himself preparing for the start of the new season with 13 players on the injury list. Thankfully the majority of them have fully recovered and were back in practice by the weekend. As it stands, just two names remain on the list ahead of Sunday’s 2024 season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Miami clear out the sickbay
Jevon Holland (ankle), Anthony Walker (knee), Jordan Poyer (thumb), Benito Jones (knee), Aaron Brewer (hand), Quinton Bell (thumb), Jalen Ramsey (hamstring), Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) and Malik Washington (quadricep) were concerns for McDaniel. Ahead of Sunday’s afternoon’s game in Miami, just two players remain on the list: wide receiver Malik Washington is ruled out while cornerback Jalen Ramsey is questionable.
In Washington’s absence, McDaniel is expected to bring in either Robbie Chosen, Erik Ezukanma, or D’Wayne Eskridge from the practice squad to the active roster until further notice.
Ramsey could also sit the game out as he is nearing the end of his recovery from a hamstring injury and might not be risked, with the Bills visiting the Dolphins on Thursday in Week 2.
Pederson hopeful on Thomas’ chances
As for the Jaguars, only Daniel Thomas appears on the list as questionable. He suffered an Achilles injury during training camp and is back training on a limited basis although head coach Doug Pederson was upbeat about the safety’s chances of making Sunday’s game, telling reporters on media day: He’s progressed. We’re optimistic and hopeful that he can play”.
Jacksonville have five players on its injured reserve. Running back Keilan Robinson picked up a toe injury in training camp and safety Andrew Wingard suffered a knee injury and is expected to be sidelined for a while.
The 2024 NFL Week 1 regular season game between the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, on Sunday September 8, with kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.
The game will be aired on CBS and can be streamed through Paramount+ or via the Miami Dolphins app (download from Apple App Store or Google Play Store) as well as on NFL Sunday Ticket via YouTube and YouTube TV.
