Jerry Jones points the finger for disappointing Cowboys season
The Dallas Cowboys have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, extending the team’s Super Bowl drought to 30 years.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has reflected on the team’s disappointing 2025 season, pointing the blame for the underperformance.
A 34-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night ended the Cowboys’ slim hopes of a playoff appearance. With two games remaining Dallas need to win both if they are to avoid slipping to a losing record, the first time since their 5-11 season in 2002
Speaking after the team’s postseason hopes were ended, Jones admitted that the season had been a failure for this expensively-assembled Dallas team.
“We all underachieved, really,” Jones said. “And the fact we’re not in the playoffs says that for you... I’ll admit that the Cowboys management has played a role, a big role."

As owner and general managed, Jones was presumably including himself in the list of culpable parties. However he maintains that this Dallas team still has a lot of potential and he promised major improvement in 2026.
“We’ve got a team that I think has got a top future as far as next year’s concerned,” Jones said. “Starting with the offense, starting with that as we stand here tonight. And I think we’ve got the bones of the heck of a defense out there as well.
“And so I think that as we do things that are directed toward making us better, period, no matter who we do it with, as we do those things, we’re starting [from a] real good spot. And I like what we’ve done with our cap. We’re able to spend money if we need to. And we’ll be able to draft with the picks we got. So I can give you all kinds of reasons why we can change-up what we’re doing out here tonight.”
First-year coach Brian Schottenheimer will hope for major improvement from his team in 2026 and can take confidence from the form of quarterback Dak Prescott, who put up 4,000 passing yards this year.
