Jets optimistic about potential Aaron Rodgers trade
The New York Jets are optimistic about a potential trade for four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. They’ve sent a team to California to talk to the quarterback.

New York Jets management flew to California to meet with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers about a possible trade, and according to an ESPN report, team owner Woody Johnson is optimistic about coming to an agreement with the four-time MVP.
The entourage that visited the quarterback included head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, and general manager Joe Douglas, in addition to Johnson.

Talk of a possible trade between the Packers and Jets began long before New York’s front office met with the QB. However, they have yet to decide what the deal between players and draft picks will be.
In 2022, the Packers finished the season with an 8-9 record, and Rodgers completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 3,695 yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In the wake of an extensive in-person meeting between Aaron Rodgers & New York Jets brass, including owner Woody Johnson, there's optimism in the Jets’ organization that they are on the brink of landing the future Hall of Fame QB, sources close to the situation tell ESPN.

How much would the Jets pay to have Rodgers?
The Packers and the quarterback agreed in 2022 to a three-year contract for $150.8 million, with the bulk of the money coming in the form of bonuses and not base salary.

Because Rodgers' salary bonuses are spread over multiple future seasons, the quarterback would have a $15.8 million impact on the Jets' salary cap in 2023 and $32.5 million in 2024.
Unfortunately, things are not looking good for the Packers as the departure of the 39-year-old would leave $40.3 million in dead salary by 2023, according to Over The Cap.
