Joe Flacco’s contract details: Salary and years remaining with the Browns

Update:

The Cleveland Browns have plenty of quarterbacks, that’s the problem. After a slow start to the season, Joe Flacco has been benched and rookie Dillon Gabriel will take over under center in London against the Vikings.

The contract is valued at $4 million but could rise as high as $13 million with incentives, according to ESPN. Flacco returns to the Browns two years on from winning the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2023.

Flacco joined a Browns quarterback room without a clear starter and the veteran got plenty of minutes in his 18th season in the league, but the Browns are off to a 1-3 start. Flacco has 93 completions in 160 attempts, but with six interceptions and only 5.1 yards per throw.

Starter Deshaun Watson is still recovering from a right Achilles injury and he could miss the majority of the season. Kenny Pickett had also joined from the Eagles but was then traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Flacco turned 40 earlier this year but he boasts incredible NFL experience and has been a top performer deep into his 30s.

He spent ten years with the Baltimore Ravens, leading the team to six playoff appearances and Super Bowl XLVII. Flacco was crowned Super Bowl MVP that year as he helped the team to its second-ever championship.

A series of injury-disrupted spells at the Broncos, Jets and Eagles followed, before a move to the Cleveland Browns rejuvenated his career. Initially brought in to provide cover after a serious injury to Watson, Flacco forced his way into the team and became the first player in NFL history to recorded 250 passing yards and multiple passing touchdowns in each of his first five games with a franchise.

Flacco signed with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2024 season but only managed a 2-4 record across his six starts. The 40-year-old now re-joins the Browns with the hope of rekindling his incredible late-season form from 2023. He is currently one of only three Browns quarterbacks from this century with a winning record, along with Brian Hoyer and Case Keenum.
